Default Door to door

We had an upsetting situation this morning. A man came to our door. He was covered with insignia and held up a badge. His truck had a flashing yellow light on top. He told me that after the wind storm last week he had noticed limbs hitting our roof. He was talking on the his radio and said something like," She is aware of the situation."
At that point I was becoming suspicious and said that we have our own people . He was nothing but a tree trimmer going door to door...but he could easily frighten someone. I called community watch who confronted him at another house and threatened police action. Just a heads up.

You done good!!!

Thanks for the heads up.

I guess some people use the "fear" tactic, to buffalo seniors, into paying for a service, they don't need. Good for you to report this episode, and stop this perpetrator, in his tracks.

Unfortunately I don't think he quit. On the way to golf I saw him touring again.

Could this be someone who is trying to rob houses and they use the radio to talk to their partner to let them know that there's someone home here so they need to move on to find another possible victim?

For the life of me, I can't figure out why theywould need a flashing light and why they would need to radio someone that the homeowner is aware of the situation. Sounds very suspicious to me.

Which were the neighborhoods where this happened/was seen?

This was Country Club Hills but everyone should be alert. At first glance it looked official.

Thanx, ttown! That's my side of town! Will keep my eyes posted! Think I'll also put police tele number in my cell phone - if ever approached by a potential scam I can call it as if I was calling my husband!!!

This sounds very similar to another thread about the landscaper who we should also watch out for. Maybe they are trying a different tactic in order to scam people. It's sad that you can't trust people to be who they say they are. And it hurts the legitimate people who are just trying to do a good job and get more work.

Ttown done good - reporting it to Community Watch and alerting readers here. CW did what they could - confronted him and monitored the situation until he left. Nothing else they could do. The bad guys just moved on to another area where resident were not so diligent and proactive as to notify CW. Unfortunately it looks like it did not take them long to locate such a village - and that is on US.
