Default Music Playing

Anyone out there have the same problem as me? I have a neighbor who loves playing there music and musical instruments on the lania at a noise level thats disturbing our peace. I asked them to turn it down but it only made it louder. I talked to the police but they said they could do nothing until after 10PM.

Any Ideas???? And no I dont want to move.

Find some really bad music and turn it up louder? Yeah, I know not conducive to good neighbor relations but it sounds like that's not going to happen, anyway. Any chance these are short-term renters and will be gone soon?

You might call Community Watch and ask if there are noise rules before 10:00 pm for things like this.

It really is a shame that people can't have consideration for others. I had neighbors like that once in my townhouse. It did become a battle between the two of us. Sadly for them, I won when I put my speakers to the wall, turned up the bass and blasted Inna Gada Da Vida for about 4 hours straight while I went out and visited friends. For some odd reason, they never blasted their stereo again.

You don't happen to live near the Bacall golf course do you? There is a house where really loud music plays during the day and it can be heard on all the holes near that particular house. Music varies, one time I heard Dolly Parton singing, the next time we played, it was opera. Not sure how the neighbors deal with it. There is no one on the lanai, the house seems closed up but the outside speakers are going full blast.

You shouldn't have to move. Aren't there sound levels that can't be exceeded even during the day? Can you get someone out to get a reading? Once you know the decible level you might be able to get more help.

How loud is too loud? - Decibel level What we hear
10 dB Normal breathing
20 dB Rustling leaves, mosquito
30 dB Whisper
40 dB Stream, refrigerator humming
50-60 dB Quiet office
50-65 dB Normal conversation
60-65 dB Laughter
70 dB Vacuum cleaner, hair dryer
75 dB Dishwasher
78 dB Washing machine
80 dB Garbage disposal, city traffic noise

Prolonged exposure to any noise above 90 dB can
cause gradual hearing loss
84 dB Diesel truck
70-90 dB Recreational vehicle
88 dB Subway, motorcycle
85-90 dB Lawnmower
100 dB Train, garbage truck
97 dB Newspaper press
98 dB Farm tractor

Regular exposure of more than 1 minute
risks permanent hearing loss.
103 dB Jet flyover at 100 feet
105 dB Snowmobile
110 dB Jackhammer, power saw, symphony orchestra
120 dB Thunderclap, discotheque/boom box
110-125 dB Stereo
110-140 dB Rock concerts
130 dB Jet takeoff, shotgun firing
145 dB Boom cars

Default Music on the Lanai

Hi everyone:

I play trumpet in various bands in the villages and due to my work schedule find it sometimes necessary to practice either early am or late pm. Some instrumentation can get away with not "blowing" every day, but not so of a brass instrument.
There are certain muscles in the face, lips and diaphragm which need a constant workout to remain pliant and strong. I try my best to practice during the day but sometimes I just can't. Being a musician and knowing the need to practice at various times is not condusive to other peoples sleeping habits, especially here in TV, I had my den soundproofed and if practicing either early or late in the day, I ALWAYS use a mute to further dampen the sound.
Why anyone would want to play "out loud" on their lanai is just asking for trouble with their neighbors or possibly he/she wants to be noticed. If it were me, I'd go to their home and politely asked them to play indoors and during normal waking hours. As it is now creating a negative effect on our relationship as neighbors. A reasonable person, especailly a musician should know better.
If this person refuses, you may have to find a sound system and blast away at them for awhile. Kind of a coarse mode of action but then you are dealing with an unreasonable and frustrated musician.

Neat bumper sticker. Went like this: "It's God's job to judge terrorists. Our job is to arrange the meeting!"

We had similiar problems with neighbors behind us (our lanai backs up to their lanai and the houses are close). It wasn't music, but it was their television and their parties. We nicely mentioned a few times that we could hear everything, etc., and let them know it was a problem, but they just didn't get the message. I finally wrote them a nice letter, but really spelled it out - their noisy television blasting that kept us from being able to use our lanai; the cat on their lanai braying in the night; their loud parties right outside our bedroom window that kept us up to 1:00 in the morning. They were mad about the letter, but the noise level did go down. You'd think most people would be a little more intelligent and courteous so a neighbor wouldn't have to go that route, but some people are apparently oblivious. One great thing they did was to get cordless headphones to use to listen to the television they had on their lanai. That really helped a lot. Maybe you could make the suggestion to your neighbors. In my letter I tried to not make it a series of complaints, but instead tried to make it a "we have a situation here, the houses are too close, let's work together as neighbors to make it better" approach. Luckily for me our noisy neighbors are moving. Good luck. P.S. I did call the Villages and they did offer to mediate a meeting if things didn't get better, but the thing to do was to try working directly with the noisy neighbors. It would probably help if you have other neighbors who are bothered by the noise, get in with you on your discussions. Our noisy neighbors tried to say we were the problem people, but our next door neighbor told them otherwise. I think that's what got the situation moving in a better direction.

Thanks for the feedback folks. We reverted to fight fire with fire. Got a boom-box and an awful channel of music and we play it when they play thiers. Too early to tell if it will work. We really hate being this child like but they gave us no choice......
