Default Colored Sand

Recently, I asked at the golf course why there seemed to be two different colors of sand being used at the courses. I was told that the green sand was for divots in the grass, and the white sand was for divots in the bunkers. Interesting.

Tell me about it. I beat and I beat and it magically fills back up. Now I know why.

Is it possible that the OP was having his leg pulled?

I've pulled a hamstring climbing out of bunkers. Does that count?

I hear they are going to put granite counter tops in the starter shacks. They are supposed to be the hot trend these days

BUNKER sand is less than 3% clay to keep it from ponding or crusting.

Bunker sand is less than 7% coarse grained sand .
This prevents the very expensive greens mowing machines from getting
dulled when golfers splay the sand onto the green coming out of the bunker.
Bunker sand is expensive.

The greenish colored sand is for Fairway and tee boxes.
The color makes it pleasing to the eye and generally includes
a dose of grass seed in the mix.
It contains more clay to retain moisture and help with regrowth.
This sand contains lots of coarse grained sand to make it walkable.

Cattywumpus - "bunker sand is expensive".
Thank you for the explanation. As a result I'm fairly comfortable saying we've never seen it here in TV. ::

What about the black sand being used at some of the Executive courses, filling sink holes?
