My friend who works at Paradise Rec center called and said there are some ducklings in a storm drain and the mother duck is all upset. They have called the fire department and I don't know who else and no one seems to be able to help. Any suggestions? They are up by Silverlake on the historic side.

mfp509, if you mean that no one has responded, try the local office of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Maybe they can help.

Ducklings caught in storm drain for 2 days were successfully rescued and reunited with their mother at corner of Ashland and Lynnhaven yesterday. After an unsuccessful attempt by the fire dept, a neighbor called VCDD and some experienced "duckling rescuers" did a great job. One guy got down in the drain and directed the babies toward a guy up on the street with a net. They say that they rescues ducks every week. So for future duck rescues, that is who to call.

...but then that is no surprise. LOL. Mac you were posting on this thread just to be helpful for the next one right? The reason I ask is that the original post by mfp509 was from April and your rescue was yesterday. Seems to be 2 different rescues. Right? Poor litthle ducklings must have it hard in TV and the rain

Mac, thanks for that information. I recently chased a mother duck and her ducklings all over Sumter Landing. She was confused with all the construction and was walking along the road. Because of the black plastic they put up for conservation reasons, she couldn't get back to the water and was going inland. Anyway, next time I'll call the VCDD, I'm too old to be duck hunting.
