Default Accidentally overpaid property taxes

It’s embarrassing however I overpaid my property taxes that were due 11-30-2020. I paid the higher amount due March 2021.

Can anyone let me know if they’ve done this? How to get the overpayment back ? Please don’t tell me to carry credit balance forward as I intend to put my home up for sale in the next 2 months or so?

I’ve contacted the tax office all I get is a recording and no return phone call. It was the phone number of Randy Mast. Thank you

You can file Form DR-462 with the county to get a refund. But, I would hand carry the form to the tax office.

Hard to believe this post. Sumter county thanks you and appreciates your generous donation. Don't call us, we'll call you.

the refund processing fee is probably the same as your overpayment.

Your over payment will be refunded in escrow when your taxes are prorated if you don't find satisfaction prior. It's not gone forever.

Default Call the office

You can call the office, and tell them you realize your mistake. I’m sure they will refund it.

I can only speak as a county treasurer in PA, but our office would either return the overpayment or refund it. In your case, I would make the request to the tax office in writing or on their prescribed form. There should be no problem getting a refund; however, they will delay until sufficient time has passed for your original check to clear.

Worst case is when you sell your property, you will get any excess payments back. You will not lose them.
