So much for your good idea. I was hoping.

Apparently they have been allowing this without the required permit since no permit exists in Wildwood now and without the required permit it is not allowed.

Square 1 Burgers seeks approval for ‘doggie dining’ at its restaurant

Square 1 Burgers & Bar in Pinellas Plaza.
Square 1 Burgers & Bar wants to offer “doggie dining” on the patio of the new restaurant in Pinellas Plaza in The Villages.
To do so, the restaurant must first persuade the Wildwood City Commission to approve an ordinance permitting dogs to dine alongside restaurant patrons.
It would be a first in the city of Wildwood.
“I don’t understand it, but I know it’s getting popular,” said Wildwood Mayor Ed Wolf.
The idea of an ordinance was presented to commissioners Monday night by Jason McHugh, Wildwood’s development services coordinator.
He said it is his understanding that other Square 1 Burgers locations offer doggie dining, including a special menu for canines.
The commissioners were open to the idea of an ordinance and will consider the measure at a future meeting.

No, they have only allowed dogs on the patio. They have not allowed them to eat there.

So, they are completely following laws and regulations. That's why they want to request approval to allow doggie dining. Good corporate citizens, and every consumer can make their own choices.

No problem with pets, but please people, leave them at home... you don't have to take them with you everywhere you go..

Maybe go back and read all the threads regarding this topic. This is not a HAVE TO, it is a want to and allowed to. It's so nice that a local restaurant is doing this for the folks who enjoy the company of their pets. There are many, many other restaurants that do not have the ability (legally) to offer this. It is only allowed on their patio. You and others who don't want to be around an animal can always go inside...or better yet sit outside and enjoy watching all the fantastic dogs that live here. There are so many wonderful breeds and so much fun to watch.

If you don't tell me what to do with my dog, I won't tell you what to do with your grandbabies. At least you can go inside to get away from my dog; I can't do that to get away from screaming kids. You don't have to take them everywhere you go...:icon_wink:

Actually, the problem of screaming, bratty kids in restaurants is a good illustration of why dogs dining in restaurants in TV isn't a good idea.

Screaming, bratty kids continue to wreck others' dining experience because their parents LET them. Today's parents often just sit there with a feeble grin like they are powerless to stop such rudeness and disruptive behavior. They act useless and powerless, and the brat is clearly in charge. By screaming as if being axe murdered, the brat has the parents right where he wants them, and he can do as he pleases. We saw such an ugly incident at the square about a week ago and the kid was clearly in charge of the situation, with the mother pleading for the embarrassment to end, but it got worse.

Likewise, unruly dogs bother other people because their owners LET them. Like the bratty kids' parents, they refuse to discipline the dog and allow it to do whatever it wants, wherever it wants to do it.

The many dog poop threads here show how many dog owners say they "can't help it" if their dog goes onto somebody's yard to toilet there....as if they have no control over the dog on a leash.

Dog "parents" who refuse to discipline the dog as the bratty kids' parents refuse to are the reason I think there will be problems with various dogs who don't know each other in a restaurant with food being served.

Just as restaurant managers do not want to have to say "no" to people who refuse to discipline their kids, they're not going to want to say "no" to unruly dog owners, either.

Does anyone really think a restaurant manager is paid enough to take a stand in front of other customers and evict a dog owner whose dog is acting vicious and baring its teeth at another dog, patron, or the manager himself??? I don't think so.

It will depend on the permit granted or not. Time will tell.

I have yet to see an unruly dog in a restaurant setting. I have, however, endured many unruly children in restaurants.

And no restaurant manager has ever evicted an unruly kid whose parents are not in control.

Of course a manager would tell the owner of an unruly dog to leave, especially the way you describe this behavior......

tell the parents of an unruly child to leave?...never.

I've never ever seen an unruly dog at a restaurant. I've seen plenty of unruly kids. I don't believe the owner of a dog that has the potential to misbehave would ever bring the dog to a restaurant.....but they would bring an unruly kid.

They have a restaurant in Tampa that allows dogs on the patio and we have been there many times. Not once have we seen any problems, no barking, no growling or aggressiveness, and they don't relieve themselves on the patio. This restaurant is always jam packed and those that choose not to be around the dogs simply sit inside. Problem solved.

Not quite so on both statements and YES they have allowed them to eat there, check the facts...

A post from another thread on Square One...is shown below. from April 18th.

A local permit is required before even allowing dogs to be on the patio and requires following the health rules Florida has outlined.

We went to Square 1 Burger last night with our dog. We dined outside and we had wonderful dinner, our dog , had chicken patty with fresh broccoli for 2.99.
Yes, they do have the cutest Doggie menu . In my opinion the food was excellent but a little salty and we just loved the idea that we can bring our dog.

Let's assume there are 50 restaurants in and around The Villages (and we know there are probably many more). Using the estimate, that leaves 49 other ones for you and every other person who objects to dogs on the patio at S1 Burgers.

On the other hand, the dog lovers have exactly ONE choice if they want to have their pet with them OUTSIDE on the patio.

Can't both sides of the argument get what they want with these odds?

If 1 or 2 or 3 people with SERVICE DOGS came INSIDE any restaurant, I doubt anyone would complain, and they shouldn't. Why does this one OUTSIDE option anger folks so much? YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PATRONIZE THE RESTAURANT, AND THE RESTAURANT IS OK WITH THAT.

It sounds like the world is full of unruly dogs, just waiting to wreak havoc on an outdoor patio. Please give dog owners some respect. I've never seen an unruly dog on a restaurant patio, never, and I've eaten on a lot of dog-friendly patios. Owners know the personalities of their dogs. Most of the time, the dogs are so quiet and docile that you don't even know they're there.
