Has anyone hired a contractor to do this?
If so, can you please provide details cost and contact details of the contractor.
Thank you very much
Julie
I added a closet to the front bedroom. I put it on the wall to the left. It is 46" wide and 29" deep with a bi-fold door. There's still enough room on the window wall for hanging curtains. The bedroom door opens against this wall, then I have a chest of drawers, then the closet. This left me with the big window and 2 big walls for beds. The closet is a good size and not intrusive. You're welcome to come take a look. The handyman that did it is now retired. I'm not sure what I paid but think it was around $500-600,

In one of the houses we have had up north, the office/den/no-closet room was called a bedroom by not only the real estate agent, but also by the property tax site. I knew it was not a bedroom, but we liked the house and it had enough bedrooms — and the last thing I wanted to do was rattle the tax guy’s cage to try to get the assessment to list fewer bedrooms. The room became my office and was used by me to type many a TOTV post.

(Btw, yes, like somebody here said, this thread might be slightly off track — but that’s OK. My people call this kind of thing a nice conversation. And nobody is mad at anybody over closet/no closet — although, the evening is yet young. )

And, now, for a segue into TOTV history — about threads jumping the track:

Many years ago when the room here was small because the site had just started, threads would get a little sideways into conversations.

There were those who would holler, “Hijack!” It was hollered in good fun — well. . .usually in good fun.

Anyway, that was when the long-running “Girl Talk” thread was started by Barefoot. “No Boys Allowed” — because everybody knows that women can follow at least 3 — maybe more — conversations at one time — and participate in all of them — and there will be no complaints about staying on topic.

Haven’t any of you guys ever noticed that when you are out to dinner with a woman, she can talk with you while filtering conversations from another table and/or the booth behind you — and fill you in. We can’t help it.

The “Girl Talk” thread is in the Feminine Forum. There you can see the archives of TOTV. It goes way back, jumps from topic to topic, and everybody involved does just fine. (I have not looked at the thread lately. I hope it is still up and running. Maybe I will go check.)

Anyway, thanks for the conversation, and for the OP, I wish all the best with the closet project.

Boomer
On that topic. My dad night before I got married gave me some sage advice. If, you think you understand your wife. You are wrong. On the off chance that you are right
don't be concerned it will shortly be spun so that you are wrong. It is a good thing as we age your hearing gets worse. To the guys, if you say yes just to shut her up, you will later be told but you agreed.

No charge marriage counseling.

Further proof. People will argue about anything.

In the end-does it really matter.

In terms of adding a closet for guests in a Gardenia. Another option is a HOTEL LIST in your office.

We will still use it as a combo office/bedroom.

The Village Sun has a couple of pages of real estate and almost all houses are listed as 3 bedrooms when the agents know that it is not really true in most cases.
Some Gardenias, Begonias, and Sunflowers have a closet in all the bedrooms so they can be listed as a 3 bedroom home.

Then it most likely has a closet in all the bedrooms. Why not call and check it out?

Gotta love TOTV... OP asks for referrals for a project.
65 (66 counting this useless post) posts later, OP has received two direct answers, and 40 posts arguing about whether or not the room in question is a bedroom or a den,

now a handful and one posts about threads jumping the track,
and of course, the mandatory handful of "No you don't want to do that, do what I did"s...

I'm going to make this post slightly less useless, I have no first hand knowledge, but I have three close friends who swear by Doc's, as mentioned in a previous post.

I have a Gardenia, myself, with no closet in what I refer to as the "Music-Exercise-Business Office-Guest Room-but not a Bedroom Room". I hope to hear, and see some pictures of your finished result.

Good Luck.

Default Easy substitute for closet

We just remodeled a Gardenia and faced the same problem of there being no closet in the 3rd bedroom.

As we were having new cabinets installed in the kitchen, we had the contractor install a pre-fab "pantry" cabinet as a substitute for a closet. He left out the shelf in the bottom part and added a clothes rod. These "pantry" cabinets are available in single door and double door and range up to 36" in width. The top part of the cabinet will hold one or two shelves. Home Depot and Lowe's have many models of pantry cabinets.

One cabinet should be sufficient for short-term visitors. If you want more space, add a second cabinet.

The cabinets look great and their use avoids the muss or fuss of installing sheetrock and painting as would be required when adding a conventional closet.

Jerry Donna, who is with Patriots built a closet in den of our Gardenia in the corner.. didn’t take up a lot of room and hence, qualified as 3rd bedroom.. did spectacular job!

I'm looking to expand my closet in my master bedroom. I made a appt. with T and D construction, Wickham construction , Gingerich construction. I figured I need a construction company because they will have to break open to the outside of house and expand on the side. We had a closet built in our garage last year by Greg Corne . 352-212-4850

Will the ARC approve this since your expanding the house?
