Another perk to being a Florida resident is discounts at Disney World. That's a big deal if you/your family go there often, or want to go there often but couldn't otherwise afford it.

I guess missed the part where OP said he has 2 homes.

Another great reason is that there is no personal property tax on cars, boats, riding lawn mowers, etc. One of the worst taxes ever. Also, no state income tax. The one thing I miss is Kroger. More reasonable grocery prices than Publix or Winn Dixie and discounts for gas.

I was a resident of Virginia Beach for over 50 years and became a resident here upon retirement. Best bang for the buck

I too am an ex-New Yorker. My view you can be happy, or not, anywhere. New York like Florida is a big varied state. Many people confuse New York State with New York Metropolitan area, ie New York City. I am retired in Florida. I was never retired in New York. Snow? Snow is pretty. I left it behind. Where can you find a snow blower in Florida? Shoveling snow? Our nutty neighbor used to serve hot cocoa as we shoveled.
Yes, taxes were higher but, we did not have a bond to pay. Bike riding? We had a great bike path that went to Jones Beach. Every place has things to offer. My garden?
Northern birds at least wait for the fruit to ripen. Southern birds will eat it green.

DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY.

Well, having grown up on LI and lived 30+ years in the Finger Lakes region, I'll say this: A little snow is pretty, 10+ feet per season of shoveling and blowing and plowing is not, neither is slush and ice. There was no bond in NY, but my property tax AND $3200 bond combined is still only one third of my taxes in NY, and my home here is worth 3x as much. Bike---yes, it is a nice path to Jones Beach, but once there you get to compete with 700,000 other people for 10 sq. feet of sand, and your bike will be stolen 1 minute after you leave it. And there aren't any birds nibbling on my limes and lemons.

Should have left NY sooner!

Like many other things replies here are opinions, essentially gossip. When, it comes to finances, you should not publish the needed information here. Assuming the op wants to keep both homes and can afford to keep both homes it is a question for an accountant.

People say healthcare in the Villages is bad but within an hour or n just about any direction are some of the best hospitals. Most people have to travel an hour in the place they are from to find good healthcare. I lived in the Houston area I had to drive an hour to a good hospital.

We lived in our previous home in Orlando for 27 years and the cap saved us a lot of money. Our buyers had sticker shock when they got their first tax bill.

There is also an exemption for disabled veterans that reduces the property tax.
