I'm sooo happy for you guys... this is going to be great. What village are you moving into????
My advice? Put all the boxes in the garage and open them up very slowly, don't work too hard to the point of exhaustion. You have a long time to open them up and put them away. Do like I did... open only the immediate necessities and start ASAP to go out and enjoy the fun. I'll be waiting for you at Waterfront so we can dance and have some fun ... okay??? (I think I still have one box in the garage after 5 years,, lol) Obviously I dont need the stuff in it...

Gene & Kathy, Do accept my congratulations! Enjoy many great times in your new home. And do try the hamburgers at Evans Prairie Country Club - the one I had on Tuesday night was excellent.

Welcome home!
Do as Kathie said, take your time. Initially, it will be fun setting up your new home, but doing it day in and day out will get tiring. Set up your kitchen, clothes closet and your bedroom.....then when you find something you want to see or do....go, do it! You'll have clothes to wear, a place to eat and a restful place to rest your weary bodies. Enjoy settling in, but do recognize that there are many here who still haven't fully unpacked... ![]()

Rather than rushing out to buy a golf cart immediately, we're thinking about renting a cart for 3-4 weeks...so we can take our time to more comfortably buy the cart we'll use for years. It may seem a waste of money to rent a cart short-term, but it would be a bigger waste of $$ to hurriedly buy the 'wrong' cart suitable for our needs. Any rental suggestions (not a slow-poke, 14 MPH cart)?

Congratulations on your new home. I join you folks in two weeks. I like the advice of setting up the basics and letting the rest happen when it happens. Great counseling !

Good feedback so far. Thanks!
But would still appreciate even more suggestions for the first few days of our move-in to TV. If you had to do it all over again, what would be on your list of... Do's... ? Don'ts... ? Gene & Kathy Village of Sanibel |

I bought a very inexpensive golf cart when I first got here. Actually got it from TOTV and my friend upgraded it to a 4 seater and did some more aesthetics on it. It was a good way to go, especially for me, because I didn't spend too much money, (I think a lot less than renting one for a few months) and I found out quickly that with my lifestyle, driving a golf cart really wasn't suitable for me, so I sold it a year later.
Why, you ask?? Well, coming home late at night, I don't feel as secure in a cart as I do in my car because sometimes its really really late, and since I'm also always late for every engagement, it would take me forever to get to my destination in a cart. So I'm just happy driving around in my little SUV.

Hello fellow newbies. My wife and I just closed April 1 and we too had a ton of things to do.
Put Walmart in your GPS. Rent the cart. BUY A TRAIL FEE and... roll up to almost any executive course around 5:30 or so and walk right out..with the starters permission you don't need to get a res... and get a few holes in...it will round out your busy day and get you into the swing of TV.

You will have your garage door open showing all the packing boxes, etc. Be aware of the "village cruisers" looking for the new residents. Expect a knock on your door offering services and the welcome hostess, which drops off coupons and tries to set you up with more services. Don't buy off the back of a truck, no matter how great it sounds. Sleep on it.
Take your time, talk with neighbors, use this valuable resource to address any concerns or questions. Be assured what you are experiencing is not unique, over 100,000 of us have been through it, survived without too many scars, and now are having a new experience of living. |

Congratulations and welcome! Pace yourselves during the unpacking process. It is very easy to overdo it and end up paying for it for a long time. I know from experience you'll want to get your house in order asap and start having fun. If you take up pickle ball, make sure you have court shoes. I know several people who have injured themselves when they started playing. Best of luck to you!

But welcome! You will try many things at first and then settle on a few that you like. Or like some of my more energetic friends, you will take the place by storm. I'm in awe of them. They have boundless energy. That may be you! |
