All you haters and naysayers. Please stay away from Aldi stores then. Your decision will leave more room in the lots and aisles. Thank you in advance.

This is typical TOTV. A person poses the question about what might happen to the proposed Winn Dixie near Micro racetrack Road now that Aldis has taken over, and we end up with Aldi "haters", European politics and Aldi policies, stolen shopping carts that bag ladies don't have $0.25 to facilitate stealing, Publix lovers and a few other posts in left field

You get the quarter back when you return the cart to the rack.

Perhaps I wasn't clear before, my bad. I always return my cart at Publix or Lowe's or Sam's Club without a "deposit". If I was disinclined to do the right thing and return the cart, $0.25 would not deter me in the least. And also if I was disinclined, Aldi's insulting "bribe" of returning $0.25 would just P me O.

Except Aldi doesn't have the "cart stalls" in the parking lot...

There you have people pulling up to the front of the store to load their car, blocking access, so they don't have to walk their cart all the way back to get their quarter...

I've never seen crowded aisles the few times I've been there...

They did have good prices on frozen chicken, and I did like the cheese selection. But the rest of the store? Limited offerings...

I did like the section in the middle where they sell all sorts of weird odds and ends...

Will I go back? If I'm in the neighborhood. My Publix is only a mile and a half away (Aldi is MUCH farther)...

I'm not an Aldi's hater. I just don't like the store or their 25-cent cart policy, which is the only store that I have ever seen where they have that policy. When I go to Publix, I park near a cart corral, so I don't need to return the cart. Also, they provide free plastic bags. But, the main reason I like Publix is that they almost always have the same products that I want because they are excellent at restocking. I can go in and get what I want, anytime I want. To me, it is the best grocery store in The Villages.

Apparently, they would:

The best way to answer that question is to go straight to the source. Aldi's website contends that by charging a cart deposit, they won't need to hire someone to retrieve the carts. They say that the customer will, in turn, reap these savings. But that's only a fraction of the big picture. The Calgary Herald reports that the Food Marketing Institute in Washington, DC estimated that businesses around the world lose about $800 million in lost shopping carts every year. People simply "borrow" them and abandon them near their homes.

My turn:
Do the math. They only lose $800 million on lost carts in the entire world? That is only 0.1 percent of the grocery store sales ($750 billion) in just the U.S. alone. Worldwide, it is practically nothing.

Go to Wal-Mart and ask an “associate” where to find a certain item and you’re apt to get a vacant look in response followed by a vague reference to “over that way” or some such. Once, I had an associate just point. Ask the same question of a Publix worker and they’ll take you right to the item.
You are correct about Publix taking you to the product you are looking for. Publix employees go above and beyond with their service.

At the holidays one can get many of the German holiday treats, their Stolen is by far the best around. Their Christmas chocolate Santas, chocolate coins and liquor filled chocolates are great. I also like their European fruit jams in the tall slim jars, expensive, but very good.

I think it is like any other store, some things are good and others not so much.
This sounds great. I will definitely make an Aldi run during the holiday season. YUM!
