I say the same about Sam’s Bj’s and Costco, peppers can be frozen for my next recipe, with onions sometimes I only need a have just chop it up and freeze save for soup or stew recipe

I wish they would show up a Publix, Winn Dixie and Walmart. To many shoppers leave carts in parking lot to lazy to push to cart rack

But there’s no free quarters to acquire at Publix. Seems little creepy to see someone approaching you to return your cart so they can keep the quarter. My guess is some don’t think about the quarter, or just want to get as far away from the stranger asking for their cart

When I was stationed in Europe decades ago didn’t need cart cause majority shopped for day or two. I could smell fish market block away. I sure it’s probably changed by now.

No they are just too cheap to pay quarter for cart when they can get one free and make quarter.

the first time I shopped at Aldi I didn't know about the quarter thing. I saw a lady in the lot just emptying her cart and I, as I often do, offered to take the cart back for her. She looked at me funny, shrugged her shoulders as if nobody had ever done that before, and let me have the cart. It wasn't until I got to the store and saw how the process worked that I realized she must have thought I just wanted her 25 cents.
As far as the experience in the store, I wasn't impressed. It just happens to be a place I often pass by, so certain items I'll pick up, and they are much cheaper than anyplace else, but it's not generally worth the extra stop.

That's where I live in NY. Now, in TV, I treat PUBLIX like a convenience store. I have seen several items there that cost close to $6, that I have found in Walmart for $3.50-$4.00...e.g. last winter when eggs were crazy, they were close to $6/dozen in Publix and more like $3 at Walmart. If I'm filling up a basket, it's worth the extra 10 minutes it takes me to get to Wedgewood.

As far as the claim that Walmart staff aren't helpful, that's pure BS. Just yesterday I was in the Walmart in Watkins Glen, NY (which happened to be crazy with customers as it's Nascar Week in Watkins Glen, a fact I had let slip my mind), and twice I needed directions. Both staff members I asked stopped what they were doing and took me there. I've never met a rude staffer at Walmart. I agree that the staff at PUBLIX are always very friendly.

Hey, to each their own. As far as the quarter thing, if that sets you off, whatever. Aldi is doing great without you. They know what they're doing and it must work for them, or they wouldn't bother. I suspect the real payoff is that since people bring the carts back, and they aren't littering the lot, they are just a little more inconvenient for the non-shopper to pilfer, which is what most likely happens to the carts that walk away. Since Aldis are free standing stores, they have small lots, and it's not much of a bother to return the cart and retrieve the quarter, or if you run into someone like me, just sacrifice the 25cents and feel good about yourself.

Aldi to buy Florida-based Winn-Dixie grocery stores. Here'''s what that means

Just so you know Aldi’s also owns a grocery store chain called Harvey’s. I suspect that the Winn-Dixie stores will become Harvey’s grocery stores not Aldi’s stores….

Note that Harvey's does not have a 25-cent cart deposit rule.

According to the article, Southeastern Grocers (SEG) owns Winn Dixie, Harvey's, and Fresco y Mas.

Aldi's does not own Harvey's....yet.

Aldi's is buying out SEG. When it does, *then* Aldi's will own both Winn Dixie and Harvey's.

There are over 300 Winn Dixie stores and fewer than 100 Harvey's stores.

It's going to be really tough to make all of your purchases for food, clothing, hardware, appliances, etc and still avoid companies that "don't align with your values".

ESG and DEI is just affirmative action under a different label which the SCOTUS ruled unconstitutional.

My point of reference was the raging post, also quoted above.

I assume it was hyperbole, but……..

Speaks volumes — and not about quarters.

Of course, like many of my posts it’s hyperbole. You should know that after all these years. Maybe we need a hyperbole emoji as well as a sarcasm emoji to go with the 3 little laughing men

There is more to how we come across in writing than can be veiled by a bunch of emojis.

No matter how many little guys are rolling about, tone and voice can come through loud and clear.

Hyperbole is like an aside or sometimes a wink. It should stand alone. Sometimes hyperbole is taken literally — which can frustrate the writer. And sometimes hyperbole can be effectively thrown right back atcha in discussion.

Anyway, if voice and tone come through in writing, why not own it instead of calling in the emojis?

Class dismissed.

If you are referring to the latest SCOTUS ruling, it only applied college admissions. Affirmative action is still Federal law and is aggressively enforced, especially in Government hiring. If you are a white male professional in the Government, you are very negatively affected by affirmative action, and it is legal.
