I always return my cart, but if I ever went to Aldi's and they treated me like a child demanding a "shopping cart deposit", I'd go passive-aggressive and leave their cart in the lot, hoping it would cost them more than a quarter to retrieve it. In fact, when minimum wage goes to $15/ hr = $0.25/minute, I'll bet it will take an employee more than 1 minute to retrieve it, especially considering how far away I would leave it. But that's just another reason I won't be shopping at Aldis

Doesn't surprise me in the least.

I love the cart idea. You get your quarter back when you return your cart and then your car won’t get dinged by carts left in the parking lot. But I can see why lazy people don’t like the idea because they are the same people who won’t walk their cart over to the cart stalls at Publix after they put their groceries in their car.

what is your source for this information?

I do not know or can speak to the OP post but perhaps he is referencing Diversity, Equity & Inclusion | ALDI US

With all of the DEI talk these days there certainly is an Unconscious Bias towards being a Hetero sexual Caucasian as somehow bad. I don't understand that. It has somehow morphed in "Equity" a factor not hard work.

Maybe these characters are the strong arm. Larry Fink, Robert S. Kapito, Susan Wagner, Barbara Novick, Ben Golub, Hugh Frater, Ralph Schlosstein, and Keith Anderson

Publix offers great customer service. What other store dries their grocery carts with a leaf blower when it is raining? I've never seen any other store do that.

Publix does cost more—though not always. Now and again you can find a crazy deal like ribeye steaks for $7.99 a pound, or those long plastic-wrapped English (I think…) cucumbers for 59 cents each. And Publix stuff IS consistently high-quality pretty much across-the-board. What sets them apart though IMO is the quality of their service. Go to Wal-Mart and ask an “associate” where to find a certain item and you’re apt to get a vacant look in response followed by a vague reference to “over that way” or some such. Once, I had an associate just point. Ask the same question of a Publix worker and they’ll take you right to the item.

Yep, just what we need----another way to follow Europe on the path to destruction. Can anyone spell G-R-E-E-C-E???

I could be wrong, but it was my understanding that the 0.25 cart deposit was more about preventing people from stealing the carts. That's obviously going to be a bigger problem in an inner-city location than TV if true...

We are well on our way, kicking the can down the road and not making difficult decisions to address unsubstantiated debt levels ultimately brought them down. It’s only a matter of time.

Seriously? A thief would steal a cart for free, but won't pay $0.25 to "buy" one????? :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

How did a harmless little thread on Aldi's turn into a vicious assault on Europe and politics. Maybe you guys need to remember the "earth is flat" and no one country can stand alone.

It was a bit of a pain first time we went to Aldi but found a number of things we preferred there and keep some quarter s in the car.

As a famous man once said "try it you will like it"

I tried once and that was enough.

If you are a chocoholic like me, they have a great selection of European chocolate bars. They even have the very small thin bars that used to go into machines, you put your dime in and the candy bar came out. They also have a fruit and nut that is to die for.

At the holidays one can get many of the German holiday treats, their Stolen is by far the best around. Their Christmas chocolate Santas, chocolate coins and liquor filled chocolates are great. I also like their European fruit jams in the tall slim jars, expensive, but very good.

I think it is like any other store, some things are good and others not so much.

Not stupid. They don’t have to hire extra people to retrieve shopping carts, thereby saving you more money on your groceries. And they don’t spend money to replace missing or damaged shopping carts, again saving you money.

Pretty sure if you are a "bag lady" you don't have a bunch of quarters in your pocket. Who else steals chopping carts? This was a huge problem when I lived in the city during grad school.

And like I said, I heard that rumor somewhere and it may not be true.
