I too have found the LARGE majority of resident to be exceedingly friendly, but it doesn't mean we are not entitled to be upset/angry at the ones who are not only menaces on the road, but extremely rude on top of it. I may be wrong, but it is probably just a matter of time before one of these incidents happens to you or someone you love (imagine someone purposely running your wife/husband off the road and then stop to consider how you would react).

Something like 40+
There is actually a company called Ride-4-Fun that puts a 7.5hp motor on gems, reprograms the controller, and sells 14 inch wheels. This combination has been known to increase GEM speeds to approximately 45 mph.

My wife doing home health in the villages and sees this happen all the time.People are in a hurry and going 10 under bothers them.Even at this time of year see back ups caused by slower moving vehicles. It makes it unsafe.I would never own one its only a matter of time before someone gets hurt.Either carts need more speed or limits lowered.Your always going to have bad auto drivers why put yourself in harm.

My husband and I were in our street legal cart when we first moved here a few years ago and encountered a woman yelling at us that we are not allowed on the road she was so mad at us it looked liked she wanted to run us off the road because she kept looking at the side of our cart and getting closer. This was on buena vista coming back from the Miona Rec Center. It was scary and she really scary. She was driving a large sliver car could this be the same person?

It's possible. It was a silver Toyota Corolla, and while I don't think of this as a "large" car, they all look pretty large when they are next to a golf cart.

With all that has been said, I'd just like to add a note on the confrontation issue.

Keep in mind that Florida does have the "stand your ground" law. While you may be very polite in your confrontation with the rude offender, they may view your confrontation as threatening. There are nut cases everywhere, and one might (I saw might) even be a neighbor.

Sorry for the hi-jack, but I'm quite sure I know the landscaper you're talking about. I've had a similar encounter. Luckily there are many reputable landscapers out there.

There are several issues here. One is the prudence of driving a street legal on a road with a 35 MPH limit. As a street legal owner myself, I would never do it and shake my head in wonderment about why anyone would do so.

Of course the real issue here is one of "friendliness" versus road rage and clearly those who exhibit such rage are in the wrong.

A third issue is captured in the title, concerning the question of this being the "friendliest hometown". For it to not be the friendliest, one would have to point to other communities where driving 10 mph under the limit in a golf cart (when there are designated golf cart lanes/paths available) is met with a friendly wave and a smile by 100 percent of the residents. I dare say that if you were to do this in any community in the country you would find at least a few who would give you the one-finger solute or worse.

Give it a little more time moving onto 102,000 people plus locals plus guests plus renters and their guests all crammed in this tiny little space and your odds of a confrontation are on the rise. Summers use to be isolated here no longer. Survival calls for a partly self imposed hibernation in the winter months (Oct thru April) for some

Wow that's awful. It should not be that way. Unfortunately the more crowded we get here, the more likely we are to run into alot of rude people. sort of takes away from the "friendliest hometown atsmophere" I remember yrs ago we all waved to each other while driving in our golf carts. Don't see that anymore. sometimes TOO many people does not make for a great community. Your entitled to drive on road if your street legal. And the neighbor isn't very nice at all to have treated you that way. sorry you had to experience this.

WOW!!! All of this for a couple of summer time incidents with probably permanent residents. If you think it's bad now just wait several months for all of the snowflakes, renters and other visitors to descend upon us with their attitudes and fury.

A refreshingly intelligent perspective.

Thanks Bogie...the inappropriate one had been removed...but boy, sure are a lot of opinions. Some folks can be counted on to find the negative in everything. I called one of them "unhappy" the other day, and I stand by that......I couldn't live my life thriving on confrontation....I guess that's why I have never been in the Political Forum.

Some of the posts here speak as if TV is the only place where road rage exists. And thus we become the Unfriendly hometown.
I challenge anyone to say they never saw idiots driving cars/carts/bicycles/scooters back in there hometowns in a dangerous way.
Folks its everywhere. And to say one is considering moving because somebody cut you off at the pass is really sad.
