So a street legal cart is placing pedestrians and bicyclists in harm’s way but the non-legal golf carts blowing by them at 20mph don't.

Tom,

I have to disagree with you. There is a computer talk term called FIFO which means -first in first out-. What I am saying is that as new people move in, others will be moving out.

It will be like the Long Island Expressway in slow motion. Having a monorail system would cut back the traffic big time. Like I said, it is a stretch but considering what The Villages has become, nothing is impossible or unpractical.
TV is a golf cart community and that is an understatement. Improvement in the tunnel system would do a lot to help traffic. Already golf carts are piling up trying to go south across 466A at Colony and according to the master plan I only see one other future tunnel crossing 466A. Other places in TV the carts also pile up trying to cross main roads that are traveled by vehicles. The golf trails are "under built" IMHO.

What does that have to do with this Thread? Street Legals have become more and more popular because in some Villager's minds it is necessary to get somewhere just a bit faster than taking a golf cart on the golf trails/paths.
The improvement made last year by widening some of the trails north of 466 really helped in that area of TV.

TV is spread out over many square miles. I don't find the traffic to be as bad as some people seem to make it. What difference does 4 or 5 minutes make anyway? Slow down, start a little earlier and enjoy! After all, the station is going to come soon enough for all of us!

Default Back Up

The back up at Colony crossing is twofold. One way goes to the only shopping area on the southside the other goes to the tunnel and Colony Rec center. Very few people use the other crossing on 466A down by the new assisted living site. Actually if your not in a HURRY that's a nice ride to the other side you even drive along the golf course for a while. There are only 2 tunnels crossing 466, two tunnels crossing 466A, and one bridge crossing Rt 441. As for a street legal they have a right to be on the road. Are they slower then the car or truck yes but they belong there. As for a walker or runner SLOW down when you pass them. As for a bike there is a 3 foot law for them when you pass them. That includes the trailer you might be towing. I had a trailer being towed damn near take me out on BuennaVista Blvd. the other morning had to go onto the grass as not to get knocked off. SLOW down and be kind to each other and we WILL stay the Friendliest Home Town. JMO

Underbuilt road and tunnels, overcrowding on the golfcart paths, long trraffic lanes on 466A, Lake Sumter Landing, etc., street legal golfcarts with an ability to go 35mph, non-street legal golfcarts that can also go 35mph,
residents who complain about residents who complain, can't complain this is paradise, yes they did promise you a rose garden and guess what it ain't, because of the swelling population and the transformation of The Villages from your retirement community to a resort/vacation get-a-way.

PS you may want to rethink a mono-rail or trolley because if it becomes a reality it will come out of your pocket and The Villages really will be transformed into Disneyworld

Now those that complain about the complainers can well.....complain

I know Rubi, I share your sentiment. We live in a society of whiners. Take a step back and look at all who are not as fortunate as a lot of us. Be grateful for what God has given us and quit being a bunch of babies.

Take the time to go back and look at some of the threads on this forum. You all complain about everything from golf cart ettiquite to not having the right food at the grocery store. Start acting like adults.

Thankyou for hearing me out. Now lets all be thankful for what we have.

AMEN! You don't have enough food on the table, foreclosing on your house, losing your job? Living under the bridge at I 75 and Bellview exit, Standing with a need work sign hwy 27? That's a problem. Getting cut off in traffic, waiting in line at the resturaunt, can't get the Tee time you want, can't put up a for sale sign? Step back and look at what an amazing life you have and get a grip. Sorry you had an unpleasant experience but get a perspective on the real meaning of life and know how blessed we are to be in the Villages.
And I am speaking to all of the "whiners" and you know who you are. :-)

While I share your sentiments and feel VERY fortunate for what we have, I have a few very simple questions:

1. Are being thankful for what we have and being very upset that my wife was purposefully forced off the road because of the type of vehicle she was driving mutually exclusive sentiments?

2. What should be the role of TOTV if not to share information and our concerns about life in TOTV?

Similarly, 3. Should the role of TOTV be to simply share how lucky we feel that we live here?

cappyjon- I agree with you. I also agree that we are so blessed to be here. So clap clap clap. Agreeing and clapping seems to be real big on this thread.

Well, there are plenty of opportunities to sell your house at a profit (unless you bought at the height of the real estate market) and find your own rose garden.
