Mutual combat implies that both of these gentlemen were willing participants in the altercation. I didn't get that impression from the article that I read.

I understand that the article stated he APPLIED for Public Defender services. Has to be approved by the judge, as far as I know, before it is a done deal.

So far, none of my neighbors have been shot in their front yard over a meth deal gone bad, as happened three doors down in the affluent suburb of Houston where I moved from. Not many meth addicts or dealers survive to 55 in this world, so at least we've got that going for us!
The Villages is by far the friendliest place I've ever lived. My theory is that it's tough to achieve the age and affluence necessary to retire to Florida without learning a minimal level of courtesy along the way. One moron punching out a guy over a fender bender is not enough to convince me otherwise. Just remember that if you'd like to live in a friendly hometown, you're gonna have to be friendly yourself. |

How can he collect unemployment from one state while being a resident in another? |

He has obviously found a way to work the system.

Who knows? He could just be renting the home or living with someone else. I learned a long time ago, beware of people who flaunt expensive things. Sometimes, it is just a way to show off. Doesn't represent anything they can actually afford. They just wanna be seen as something they are not. |

This is a bit of a stretch, but, if he is homesteading he must be a Florida resident, so if he really is drawing unemployment from Massachusetts he could be in trouble in both States.

I just laugh at his defense "But, the man didn't look 87 yrs old!" So, you can punch and murder someone younger?

He can't. It also says he's retired. It is illegal to collect unemployment if you aren't actively seeking full-time work in the state you're collecting it from. If you do it anyway, it's called fraud, and you can face criminal charges and penalties for it. They actually TELL you this every single week that you file for the next week's check.

Maybe we're looking at this the wrong way, there is an opportunity for TV to make money.
Once a week you have cage matches in the town squares. It will be a new form of entertainment and these old timers can relieve their built-up anger. I'd pay a couple of bucks to watch this. |
