I'm a good example of why it doesn't matter: I'm educated. College degree, multiple certifications in a myriad of subjects from bartending to aromatherapy to computer coding. What did I do with all my education? I mostly did retail, customer service and cashiering. Most of it was non-management. Remember, narrow-minded folks: the person you're criticizing for being stupid at the check-out counter, because they needed to check with their manager to approve an unusual return - might be more educated than you are. They WILL laugh at you after you've left the store. |

The more it grows here the worst it is getting-doctors, hospitals, no parking at the squares, traffic, and I could go on and on! This is all about how much more money can be made and I find this to be sad. As much as we enjoy the warmer weather in just 6 years of living here we are rethinking our move.
I can't even find an experienced cardiologist for my pet! We have to travel to Gainesville. We use to live in a town with over 150,00 and we had 4 veterinarians that were experienced in echos and medicine needed for heart disease.. Prayers for the elderly man that recently died at Glenview from the fall :{ |
Earlier I had ignored this thread because I figured it was just another "kool aid" post. When I read it I was really quite horrified to think that the aggressor had punched the older man several times before realizing it was not even his car the older man had hit and then just walked away, not even offering help. One can assume the aggressor had been drinking which would not help the situation, but he needs to do time.
I believe the relatives of the deceased person could take a civil suit and put this guy away for a good long time. This is information in Florida law. "Punishment for Battery on an Elderly Person This is a first-degree felony that is punishable up to 30 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. There is a mandatory 3 year prison term. The judge will order that restitution will be paid and the defendant must do 500 hours of community service." So who knows, maybe he will pay dearly for his stupidity. |

There's also Central Florida Veterinary Cardiology in Eustis. That's much closer than Gainesville. |

As far as what will or will not result in prison, it seems that these days there is underenforcement of existing laws and underpenalization of convicted offenders. YMMV |

Sadly, most of the sensationalistic crimes headlined on the other site aren't even in The Villages. |

I would also like to offer that some of the residents in TV are dealing with the frustrations of the health and mental issues that come with the "new normal" of aging. Frustration is often displayed as anger. Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with verbal or physical abuse. ..but, I would ask that we all be a bit more hesitant to use the word "entitled" until you have walked a mile in someone's shoes. |
I just finished reading another article about this situation. The man who hit the car got out and was offering his insurance card. Instead of accepting, the other man threw several punches at his face. He only stopped when he realized the car hit was not his. Then he drives away leaving the injured man who shows signs of collapsing. The police had to track down the man who delivered the punches, then was able to arrest him. The man's excuse? The gentleman he murdered didn't look like an 87 year old man. He is out on a $30,000 bond.
I showed the article to my family. A good reminder to them that objects are not worth fighting over. They can easily be fixed or replaced. Worship, rage, and a feeling of prestige with "precious objects" is a real thing! Objects can and never will bring you anything but the bill you have to pay for them. Perhaps this was the reason for his rage. He bought something he couldn't afford. |
