What is it that "doesn't need to be policed" and what "should they be doing"?
Who decides???? You????Me????

Ideal policing is to show up at the scene of a crime 30 seconds before it occurs, which is only possible in the movie "Minority Report"

Meanwhile, there are those, even on this site, that want the police to spend their time writing thousands of tickets for going 40 in a 35 zone or 21 mph in a golf cart. Oh, the horror, the horror. Should those people be deciding what the police "should be doing"? Or should they just hide under their beds?

The other extreme is anarchy, a la California and some of our larger cities.

Perhaps we should allow the professional law enforcement senior management to decide what policing activities to focus upon.

99% of all police departments only focus on the sin side of life, as in hookers and massage parlors. Big deal... provides nothing for the community at all. I'm sure you've hear "that's nice they busted her, what about the crack deal that was going down 20 feet from them?"

Back in the day, I funded part of my college expenses selling Kirby vacuum cleaners. Best prospects of all were those couples living near campus pursuing post-graduate degrees. They may have known a lot about their chosen field of study but as a rule precious little about money. Easily convinced to by something that was obviously beyond their means.

I find it more astonishing that you (or anyone else) would be astonished. This is a community of 150,000 transplants from other places, most of whom had never met each other before moving in. Of course there will be criminals, violent people, drunks, drug addicts, unwed mothers, uneducated people, bigots, racists, sex offenders, antisemites.

There are more good people than there are bad, in my opinion. But no one should be astonished to learn that the bad exist.

So, “unwed mothers” belongs in the same group as criminals, sex offenders and racists. Wow!

A few bad apples

We say it is America's Freindliest Hometown, but that doesn't mean there are no unfriendly people in TV. You are engaging in typical media tactic. Take one example of something and try to lead people to believe that this is the norm or rampant.

There is no place on earth were 100% of the people are friendly. In my experience in TV the overwhelming majority of people are extremely friendly, law abiding and considereate of their neighbors. There is no place I'd rather Live.

Villager to rely on public defender in alleged manslaughter of 87-year-old. According to latest article.

Well good luck with that. He needs an attorney who specializes in elder abuse.

What I don't understand, why is this nut out on bail walking the streets among us? Does anyone know what village he lives in?

Yes, I am sure someone does know what village he lives in. You would know what village he lived in if you had read any of the three articles about the incident.

Why would he NOT be out on bail? Is there a risk he won't appear in court?

That has to be the absolute dumbest made up statistic that I've ever read.

Yes. With the group name being: "people who are either villains or vilified by other groups of people, people who some members of society think "not in MY neighborhood."

Sort of like a guy who was charged, sentence, and did time for sex with his 15-year-old girlfriend, when he was 19 years old himself, and is now 50 and hasn't ever committed any other crime but is now forced to register as a pedophile sex offender for the rest of his life.

Whether you believe it or not, arguing, rudeness, fighting, and loud mouths is prevalent where I live. And, I have seen my fair share of crime. I live by one of the squares. Once darkness hits, it's game on around here!

Move up to the Historic Section, to the left of the Boone Gate, past the golf cart gate on Paradise. Kiley Court has a couple of nice site-built homes for sale, the streets off Magnolia usually have great properties available as well. It's fairly quiet. We had one prowler who we never caught and never showed up again, who never stole from or harassed anyone. Probably just someone with dementia who got lost and found their way home again. One neighbor with a nasty adult kid living with her (she alternately referred to him as her son, her nephew, and her friend's son). The kid's gone, problems solved. And one house that was abandoned by the management company that owned it. The house has been sold, so hopefully the lawn will get mowed this week, for the first time in almost three months.
