No... I am terribly saddened to hear this. Andy was an admirable person. My condolences to his friends and family.

A real American entertainment icon. Ron Howard is the only one from the Andy Griffith show I can think of that is left.

Jim Nabors (Gomer Pyle) and Betty Lynn (Thelma Lou) are still with us. The Andy Griffith Show was my most favorite sit com of all times. RIP Andy Griffith!

That is right, rnj4983. For some reason, I thought Gomer was dead.

What a great show. I loved the Darlings and Ernest T. I cry every time I see the episode where Opie shot the bird.

I especially remember Andy from the movie "No Time for Sargents!" where he played a naive, stubborn, literally minded hillbilly called Pvt. Will Stockdale, USAF.

The scene I'll never forget is where the Sgt. ordered him to clean and prepare the latrine for a VIP inspection. Pvt Stockdale went all out in the preparation, but went a little overboard in one respect.

When the VIP was brought into the latrine for the inspection and the order of "attention" was given, Will also gave his version of a solute to the VIP. He stepped on a pedal that was wired to all the toilet seats, and in unison all the seats snapped up in salute! You can only imagine the expression of his sargent's face!

I can't watch that episode where Opie shot the bird. It was good series - I loved Don Knots especially when his eyes would bug out. I can still picture it and laugh. Yes, it is a sad day in Mayberry.
