Of course, I agree with Sister Elizabeth.

Lately we've experienced a few "misses" with cars driving as if they own the road, i.e., saw a vehicle that decided to stop while going around a circle, a car darting from two lanes over to make a right hand turn in front of our car, etc. There are a lot of visitors from other places that panic when they see a circle, have eyesight problems (glaucoma), and on and on. We really need to keep our eyes open and drive defensively for the next few months. It reminds of deer rutting season when you got to watch for deer running in panic into the roads. Guess you can tell I'm from W. PA. :-)

Having gone to school across the Ohio and having travelled to dubyavee often, you could have answered "fewer than the last census" and been correct as it was the only state to have lost population in the 10-year census of my being there.

Default Wreck around the roundabout

Wreck around the roundabout,
A pain in the neck which you will found about
Soon in the Villages Daily Sun.
Not! Not!

Ashes ashes
from the Morse family fireplaces
They all fall down.

The buffalo in the meadow
Avoiding their own chips
Thunder, lightening,
Which is quite common in the Villages
But rarely reported in the Sun
they all stand up!

And here I thought Boomer and UUJudy were the only English majors.

I think Tal is an undercover English major.

Excellent question.

Are there more wrecks this winter than usual? If so, is it attributable to growth alone? Is there a pattern to the causes of the accidents? Are possible mitigations being considered?

I'm asking rhetorically only in the sense of not seeking speculative answers. On the other hand, a well-researched, fact-base news analysis would be helpful, imo. I do think that we have a vested interest in understanding what's happening in our community.

I don't have any hard numbers but there does seem to be an increase in accidents and incidents in the past month. There is always an increase in incidents as Dec/Jan roll around with the influx of seasonal residents and renters. Just the increase in number of drivers and traffic would lead to an increase in number of incidents over, say, July.

Some other factors this year....

It's been unseasonably cold, so, more people are driving cars vs golf carts.

There have a been a few major roadway changes since last winter that will be all new to returning renters and seasonal residents. Re-routing of the cart path by Sweetbay; major changes on Morse Blvd from Rio Grande south to 466; Opening of Freedom Pointe and new access/traffic light there; restriping of all the traffic circles.

Not really hard facts , but the following is my post regarding the thread about the car/truck that went throught the roundabout on Buena Vista.

"Tuesday
Friends visiting from St Pete witnessed the aftermath of what appeared to be a head on collision on Morse Blvd and Colony Plaza.

Wed.
Aforementioned accident that took out the Hemingway gate and was probably responsiible the minor blackout some us experienced.
I missed Bunco

Fri.
On the way to mah jong was delayed because of a major accident on the 466 and Rolling Acres Rd. Disabled vehicles on 3 of the 4 corners.

Sat./Sun.
Taking out of the pumping station on Odel & Buena Vista.

I'm starting to feel like we're all in a bad chase movie.

Just hope no one was seriously injured in last night's acciddent."

Since then 2 more incidents reported on these threads.

To me this could be considered "a lot" for such a short period of time.

As to the reporting in the Sun my opinion is that they are doing the community a disservice by not reporting these incidents, with or without the gory datails, with the warning to please be extra careful out there.

Apparently we have been invaded by a hoard of the worst drivers in the history of the world.
