I understand both Dish and Direct have the ability to have one account.....a dish here and a dish at another location. Then just unplug the box and rep lug at the other location.

Does it really work that easily? Opinions welcome but I am looking to hear more from those who actually do it.

My son has Directv and lives a mile away from me. I had NFL Ticket so he borrowed on of my boxes to see an NFL game he was interested in, and it worked in his house using my SIM card. FWIW

It is in fact just that easy in fact when we had the RV we used to move it from house to RV to house, etc, just call the to change my address to ensure I get the local channels.

We've got DirecTV in OH. We had DirecTV install a satellite dish at our TV home - we bring our receivers from OH when we come down to TV. Has worked out great for us for 3+ years. No additional charges whatsoever - still one account, one monthly bill - just two "service addresses" for our account.

Antenna in TV is installed for free (roof-mount.....pole mount in the ground is extra). We pack our two receivers up when we head down to TV. We make a phone call to DirecTV when we arrive in TV - they switch our service address over to our TV address so we can receive the local FL stations out of Orlando. We call them again when we get back to OH so they can align us with the local stations out of Columbus. If you don't care about receiving the local channels for your other location when you move your receivers, no need for the phone call - all your other stations will still be received. But the local stations from your originating service address will not be received until you return back there.

If you go this route, you cannot have your service active at both locations - it's either one location or the other. Otherwise, you'll have to set up another account with them, etc., etc.

An additional twist: We have snowbird friends who leave their two DirecTV receivers back home and had DirecTV install a new DVR receiver in their TV home. They pay an extra $6 every month for this additional receiver, year around, whether it's being used or not. It's their way of not having to transport their receivers back and forth each time they come to TV. Aside from that, it all works the same way - make the phone call to DirecTV each time to have the local channels accessible at the appropriate location, etc.

I too have done this for 5 years. Last 2 years we bought a DVR and left it in our home here in TV. It works great.

We did that too, for two years. Occasionally when we would go from one location to the other (MI to FL and back), we would have to re-call them after they supposedly made the switch, because our local stations would show up as the other locations' local stations and then blank out.

But it never took more than a phone call to get it straightened out.

I do the same with my RV, I move the hopper and 2 joeys

What do you do about internet service? Will they let you put it on seasonal at a much reduced rate?

Have relocated the boxes for the last three years and have not had problem switching service. Actually had a box go out last Thursday and DTV had a new box overnighted to me on Friday, great customer service.

Do you need a second address to get to get that areas local news? I have Directv and would like to get the New York area local channels down here in The Villages. They said I couldn`t do that. Would you know of any other way to get around this?

That was true a few years ago and I assume it still is. We used one in an RV but did need a dish antenna on the RV to tune into the signal when we parked. They make an antenna that constantly tubes even while driving but I think it was real expensive so we chose the other. We did it with DISH Network
