Default Dust storm?

There seemed to be excessive dust in the air today. At first we thought it was smoke from burning off brush. But it was brown and had a dirt smell not smoke.
Anyone else see it and/or know what it was from?

Villages Radio reported a controlled burn in sumter county, & that the upcoming winds should move it out of the area

Hubby and I noticed what we thought was smoke blanketing the area as we drove on I75 this afternoon. It looked like a brown haze.

Controlled burn was reported on WVLG, was kind of nasty late this afternoon in the greater Spanish Springs area. Seemed more like an uncontrolled burn to me. I was swimming laps at La Hacienda and the stench put an unanticipated damper on my workout.

OP, I have no idea what area of the villages you are in, but several years ago we experienced the same thing as we were in the middle of a construction area, and once in a while the wind would kick up a lot of dust, especially if the contactors were not keeping the roads damp.

Yes, it was widely reported as a prescribed burn. Only you can prevent wildfires

Reminded me of Los Angeles in the 1970's.

It was in my neighborhood in Marsh Bend. I was working in the yard and it tasted like dirt in my mouth, not smoke. Went inside and closed the windows. So much construction around us. It had to be dust from the enormous areas that are being cleared and filled.

I finally took the golf cart ride through the new area the other day, from Rohan and around to Brownwood. There was an area of about a half mile long where the dump trucks were kicking up so much dust I had to put on my mask (fortunately I always have one handy these days). I think today I will do my cart a favor and replace the air filter.

The air is cold, but the water is nice and warm!

I noticed the smoke blowing across a water basin in DeSota and thought at first it was coming from a home. It was very light, but noticeable. Then as I walked further I could tell that the source was much further than I could see. There was a low grey overcast on the horizon to the North so I figured there was a large fire somewhere. Appreciate the update from previous replies.
