Generally, yes. However, there are some areas that are not so good. This is true for all cellphone services. Which part of The Villages are you going to be in?

VILLAGE OF CHARLOTTE : We had to have ATT provide a booster for strong signal . We were insistent with ATT , THEY WANTED US TO BUY THE BOOSTER " but I did not stand for it , I was transferred 3 time to different people to finally get NO CHARGE for my booster . I convinced them they were not filling the contractual agreement of providing g a usable service .
They charged my account / then removed it on the next months bill . $99 That was the way they had to show it on their computer |

The box is called a "Microcell" and is not actually a booster. It creates a separate cellphone zone within your house and routes the calls through the internet via your broadband router, which the box needs to be plugged into. The signals from the cell towers are ignored. I have one and they work well as the ATT cell strength is not good on the southside of The Villages. In my case, they checked my address and said I qualified for the box for no charge.

I have a micro tower like the one mentioned and also live in Charlotte, however I am contemplating going to Cricket..... which uses ATT wireless network. So if I switch, can I use the micro tower that was provided to me by Verizon....are they specific to the carrier or can they be used interchangeably.

We have a house in the south end of the villages that we are renting out until we retire next year. The renters have told us that they have AT&T and are not at all happy with the strength of their signal. We were told by the builder that Sprint has better coverage in The Villages than AT&T but can't personally confirm that. Since we hope to move away from a land line and go all-cellular when we move down, we are interested in what other folks have to say about the relative strength of signal from various providers.

General, north of 466A is pretty good for AT&T, as they have added a couple of towers, one over on the west side in Wildwood. Before that, we had to use a Microcell in Pennekamp/Buttonwood to get any signal in the house.
The area near the Allamanda Rec Center is pretty bad for AT&T, especially across the street in Sullivan Villas. I know a couple of AT&T users who can't get reliable service inside their homes without a Microcell. |

I have personally been to houses just North of 44, and they had to get the AT&T microcell, I have Verizon, and had 3 bars and no trouble making calls from the location.
Also, if you do a search on this site, cell phone coverage has been discussed at length in previous posts. Hope this helps.

We are South of 466A, in Lake Deaton. We had spotty coverage, especially in the house. After several calls to AT&T, they gave us a micro cell for our house.

Here in the Village of Santiago ATT works quite well.
Last spring I was at the Sprint Store here in TV and sales rep there not only told me ATT was better than Sprint, he showed me the coverage maps to prove it. Needless to say I thanked him and stayed with ATT and got a newer phone. |

Been using Consumer Cellular for 4 years and have had no problems with phone & text messaging anywhere in Villages. They use AT&T's network. Saves me a lot by using Consumer Cellular. Don't require the newest phones to meet our needs which do not include much data use. But $45/month for two lines with more time and messaging than we need is a plus.
