Default Oh My!

So, I'm up at Spanish Springs a few nights ago watching Rocky and the Rollers about 5:30 with two people who are visiting us for the first time. All is going well. One of them wants to go off to the Tervis store for a "look see". I say, "ok, but once the stacks of chairs are gone, I can't be saving your seat". She understood.
She makes it back in about 20 minutes after securing a sporty new glass (almost a Villages must buy souvenir).
The people behind us take up 7 seats between the two of them and it's getting crowded. The lady then says to the man across 5 empty saved seats, mind you, "if they are not here in a half an hour, we are leaving, they know I can't stand Rocky and the Rollers".
What is up with that???? It was just wrong on so many levels!

I can understand it. Sounds like a group wanted to see Rocky and the poor woman who doesn't like them got stuck saving a spot for them. I wouldn't be too happy if my friends were late and I was saving seats for them even if I liked the group playing -- it gets awkward saying the seats are saved; you can't get up to do anything; YOU'RE STUCK!!!

Personally, I'm not a big fan of Rocky, but I don't dislike them, either. So, I can emphathize with this woman. I'd be pretty ticked off if my friends were late while I save 5 seats for them.

P.S. Glad your friend made it back in time to still have a seat. And, I agree, Tervis Tumblers are a Villages' must have.

IMHO, the concept of "saving seats" is just wrong. Why should people have to stand while empty seats are available? It should be "first come, first served".

i will still save seats for my friends - but i give them fair warning that it will only be for what i feel is a reasonable amt of time; and if strangers [friends i haven't met yet] come along and ask after the seats i invite them to sit until my friends arrive.

Barefootie and NJ Beach cute sweet girl. I agree with you both.

We know of someone that will go downtown on the MORNING of a parade and hold a table for neighbors.

Life is too short.

I hate huge gatherings at the squares for some big event because you see that a lot. Some mean old lady in a visor glaring at you as you approach her chairs. (She is probably younger than me, but you get my point)

I have been to the squares when people are "saving" seats and have seen the seats unoccupied for a majority of the evening. If there are no available seats, I will just sit down in one of the "saved" seats. When someone tells me that they are "saved" I answer back that I will move when the person comes. I then proceed to ignore any further conversation. Under no circumstances will I stand with my cane when there is an unused seat.

Last year we came for the 4 day visit during the lighting of the Christmas tree. During the afternoon they started setting up the chairs on the square and I was surprised to see people out there roping off whole sections of chairs. That evening as people started arriving looking for seats there would be these whole sections of seats roped off with no one sitting there. Many of the people didn't arrive to late in the evening to claim theses seats. I was tempted to go untie some of the ropes so some of the others could sit, but I thought I better not stir up problems my first night here.

There are always a few who are selfish and think only of themselves. I'm with you mac9.
