So sad...when I bought my home in a new neighborhood I was getting companies knocking at my door at all hours and living alone made me feel unsafe. My neighbor put a no soliciting sign but they kept saying sorry I didn't see it as they continued their pitch...I put a large sign in my window that read "I do not own this home...I rent it"...the end

A great video by Ira Miller, while nearly 3 years old the scum he talks about still exist and scam residents.

If someone calls you or knocks on your door and wants to sell you something, the answer is simply NO.

If you need something installed, upgraded, or added to you home, you should start the search or conversation not the swindler at the door or on the phone. If you're not sure ask a neighbor or a friend.

We are all very fortunate living here to be a part of a very diverse, knowledgeable, and talented cross section of people living here, almost all of which are willing to help and advise you as a friend or neighbor when something goes wrong or needs fixing. You may not know someone who can install a ceiling fan, fix a faucet, tile a floor, or any number of other things around the house, but if you ask your friends or neighbors, they most likely do, and that person can either help you or direct you in the right direction, or at least look over the proposal of work to be done and help you spot things that don't seem right or are an outright scam.

There is no shame or embarrassment in asking for help, you own talents and knowledge may be called upon by one of your neighbors or friends that may need help.

My favorite scam I got three times. A phone call from a woman saying she was from The Villages Welcoming Committee and she had a $25 gift certificate from Home Depot she wanted to present to me. I told her, I had just left HD and I could of used that, I said just mail it to me. She said, oh no I have to present it in person because part of our orientation is for me test your water to see if it's safe to drink. I told her, I been drinking Florida water off and on since I was 9 years, and I don't need my water tested and hung up.

We got one like that in the mail several times. Called them and it sounded shady and ignored it.

Sad that so many people think it is ok to earn a living stealing from others

It is a nice video and it is sad that many get scammed. I have always only dealt with people I called in and not those that show up on their own. Not fool proof but better odds.
