Default Audible Tornado alert

Good afternoon, it's my understanding that following the early morning tornado surprise in the Villages a few years ago, I was wondering what it sounds like, as we hear many sorts of sirens.

Perhaps there is a pre-season test but I have not heard of it.

Never heard it either. We have a weather alert radio that alerts us.

No sirens that I know of in TV, just the weather alert radios. From people who lived through those tornadoes, I'm not sure a siren would have helped. By the time folks would have heard a siren or even a weather warning, the tornado had come and gone. It seems like the "warning" was actually hearing the tornado coming at them.

You can go to any of the fire stations and sign up to be called when serious weather is heading your way.

I've never heard of a warning siren. You can buy a Weather Radio at Ace Hardware and have it programmed for your County at the local fire station. That's what we did. It alerts us to tornado watches, and more importantly, to tornado warnings.

This has been discussed before, as to why our TV fire stations and public safety department do not have a siren system to warn of tornadoes as many of us had in other states, in towns and cities large and small.

Here is a Central Florida city that installed tornado sirens and had run tests for residents to know what they were hearing, when a real warning was needed. *****In this report, they tell how the tornado siren system worked exactly as it should have.....BUT the residents who relied on their NOAA Weather Radios to receive warnings from Melborne National Weather Service got NOTHING from it********

There is no outdoor sirens in The Villages area. U need to have ur cell phones and house phone and weather radio set up to be able to determine if some emergency weather is immenient. Or have ur TV on a local channel out of Orlando.

Our community in Ohio experienced a tornado about a decade ago that caused extensive damage to us and two neighboring suburbs. After the fact sirens were put up so that everyone could hear the siren if it was turned on. Every 1st Saturday of the month they are tested at noon so that everyone knows what it sounds like. Since then every time I have heard it my first thought is what day is it and then I look at my watch. It would be a great investment for the villages!!!!
