Default 466A Gas Station

Looks like the gas station on 466A bit the dust again. Went there to get gas tonight and all the lights were out. I probably shouldn't assume it is closed since I didn't actually go all the way up to it, but it certainly looked dead. Never could figure out why everything was more expensive there -- from the gas to the Cokes to the .... Ah, well.

Default Gas Station

Residents and passer by's will only be taken once after pulling in the, as you now call the defunct, gas station on 466A. Their prices were always 20% higher than other places. What goes around in this world comes around.

Since I fill up the tank in my car so seldom, I admit I never paid my attention to the prices. However, when I did go there half of the pumps weren't working and the other half kept shutting down after only a few drops of fuel. I once went inside to complain to the clerk and the reaction was "that's not our problem". Maybe it should have been.

Now I go to the Shell station at Southern Trace and find the service and quality excellent.

Default That station

has a very strange management style. Less business so they charge more and the business keeps going away.
I seldom buy anything there because of the high prices.
It has been unattended several times. I don't think it was ever closed it's just that the attendand doesn't always show up. So they sometimes have a late opening time or none at all. Then the next day it's business as usual.

Default Shell

Last week at the Shell, a customer paid cash for fuel then drove off without getting the gas. Another customer pulled up to the same pump and inserted a debit card. Somehow, the station's computer shut down and all had to wait for almost an hour for fuel......Interesting.

Everything's more expensive there because there is no competition. I usually fill up the car at the Fruitland Walmart but Colony is the closest gas station by far for the golf cart if you live south of 466.

It's a Shell. Thanks for letting me know the hours. I'll try to remember that the next time I'm truly desperate for gas.

I once talked to one of the owners about the fact their gas was at least 10 cents higher than any other Shell in TV. I was told that they are in a different district from those on 466 and 441. Supposedly, their district dictates the price. Also asked why the other stations (regardless of brand) were selling Cokes for two for $2.22 and they were selling them for $1.59 (even higher than Sweet Bay, Publix, etc.). I was told that the Coke distributor dictated the price. I found it really hard to believe that they had no say-so on any of the prices. It seems they could never figure out that people were not going to use them if the customers couldn't get items needed (like gas for their tanks), reasonable prices and good service. There are too many other choices that offer so much more. Too bad for them -- they could have a very thriving market.

They have (had) a great location and an almost captive audience. Too bad they also had a management style designed to drive away even the most dedicated customer. The owners got what they deserved. I hope the next owner/operator avoids their mistakes and uses "price and service" as his or her marketing strategy.

This is the second set of owners for this station. So, some of the blame does have to fall on Shell -- it probably is Shell who is doing the gas pricing. The first owners really were friendly and tried hard but too often were out of gas and the prices were too high. The present owners never seemed to really care.

I have bought gas there on occasion and realize the prices are higher than other stations. The reason I get gas there is primarily for convenience and figure that maybe buying gas there costs me an additonal 60 or 70 cents, no biggie!!! BTW I don't have large gas tanks on my hybrids.

Was just there this morning and gas was $2.63, not out of the price range of other stations. You got to expect to pay more for food or snacks at a convience store such as this or 7/11 etc. You can't compare prices to Publix. I only use them for gas.

I'm comparing apples to apples -- prices at other gas station convenience stores to this one. It is ALWAYS higher -- for gas, for snacks, for drinks. Yes, $2.63 is comparable, but still $0.05 higher than the stations on 466. That may be okay with you, but not me. That $0.60-$.70 per tankful quickly adds up.
