Default Baby Buffalo

I was cruising by the buffalo pen adjacent to Lake Sumter Landing this afternoon and counted 4 little baby buffalo (calf is the proper term according to Wiki). Awww, so cute.

Hmmmm, what have the big buffalo been up to in the middle of the night (well, after 9pm) when the rest of us were sleeping?

I did hear that there were 4 or 5. I haven't had a chance to see them yet, but I'm sure going to over the weekend. I love baby anythings!

2 or 3 years ago when we had buffalo off of El Camino Real I got to see one being born. It was a great experience. The baby was so cute as it was learning how to use it's legs for the first time.

Stopped by to see the baby buffalos tonight and they are adorable. There are the four at Lake Sumter and there is one at the pen at Parr Drive (near 466).

When I was down there a few weeks ago, my friend and I had the great honor of being able to see a baby buffalo, probably only 4 hrs. old. So cute. It wouldn't stand and the mother (I think, yes I know - I remember seeing evidence of the birth) kept nudging it to try to get it up. She'd walk away, look back, then eventually mozey on back to the baby and do the same thing all over again. Also, while I was there, got to see two sand cranes with 2 sand crane "chicks"??? That, I was told, was a rare occurrence - many residents don't get to see them up front and personal like that. I feel lucky, oh so lucky. Didn't see an alligator up close and personal but that was okay with me.

I've been amazed with the sandhill cranes. Before moving here, my concept of a "local" bird was a sparrow or a pigeon. The first time I played Heron golf course, a couple of those things were standing on the tee, just kinda hanging around. I thought when we stopped the carts and got out, they'd vamoose like any wild creature. Instead, the two birds eventually looked at us as if to say "Well, what the :edit: do you want." We waited. They left. We played through. I just love 'em. It's kinda like they own the property and kindly allow us to use it. So dignified!!

My wife and I watched the newest baby buffalo being born yesterday morning. I was able to get a ton of photos and Quicktime movies. It was a very interesting experience. Not only watching the birth but the aftercare. Another buffalo pushed the mom away and proceeded to clean up the baby. When mom tried to get near she was chased off. Once baby was cleaned up and on it's feet the surrogate mom walked away. Interesting! I posted a couple of pictures on my .mac web site if your interested.

Those pictures are so cool thanks for sharing bare and jmark.

While we're on the subject of Buffalo, does anyone know how/when they transport the Buffalo from one location to another? Has anyone ever seen it being done?
