Default Back to TV

Kathy and I -- TV wannabes who are getting closer and closer to becoming real TV frogs -- will be doing our first winter-time trip to TV from Feb. 5-12.

We'll be renting a house in Duvall.

Even though we have vacationed (we call it research time) in TV 6 times, we haven't experienced the "snowbird time."

We would appreciate any advice for our upcoming trip. Traffic, golf, restaurants, etc. We plan to take a day trip to Orlando during our stay to attend the Money Show (I understand 10,000 people attended the show last year)

well, it certainly is not like any other time of the year! traffic, long lines everywhere [not just for dining], shut-outs on tee times...all countered by more friends to meet, new golf partners and sports buddies, new golf courses and rec centers have opened, and your bones have never felt so good in winter!

i suggest as many others have, that you bring your check book - this could be the visit that just sends you over the edge for wanting to have your own place in the vllages...OR...it could be the visit that convinces you that you are right to just visit in the 'off-season' rather than the 'high-season'.

Snowbird time is actually attending some of the over 2000 activities in TV. Many of the snowbirds have returned so club activities are getting very interesting. Check the Rec Center Reports available on Thursday and visit activities of your liking.

I have heard the "bring your checkbook" phrase before, and we may do just that. We ARE getting closer. There is NOBODY (outside of TV) who has talked more about moving to TV than Kathy and myself -- like every week for the past 4 years. How is that for consistency? Kathy retired 4 mos. ago, and I retire in mid-2013. We have been kept up to speed on TV by participating here and getting words of wisdom from Ambassador Gracie (she lived 15 miles from us in Ohio before she and her family became TV frogs a few months ago).

On the most recent TV quiz that was e-mailed to subscribers to the Villages Monthly, I scored a 90% -- not bad for just a TV wannabe.

I would appreciate any other advice, since this is our first "winter trip" to TV.

I have read where some members of the TV Investment Education Club will be carpooling to the Money Show on Feb. 9.

I forgot to say: There are 2 forms of registration for the Money Show: FREE or $495 (you get to see/do more for the $ option, naturally). The folks at Money Show told me about 90% of the attendees go the FREE route...that will be Kathy and me!

You're only staying for 7 days and you want to spend one day in Orlando? Thats sacreligious! I wouldn't leave TV at all in that week! Anyways, enjoy your stay as I'm sure you will!

We actually planned our "winter stay" so that we could double-dip: Enjoy our 7th trip to Ahhh-TV, and attend the Money Show (the show lasts 3+days, but we'd do 1 day only).

After all, our PRIMARY trip mission is to capture the benefit of TV. We'll do some home-buying "research," of course. As we always do. Who knows, our buying time is getting close! Real close!!

We're hopeful the snowbird traffic doesn't dent our golf too much. We always bring our clubs, and rent a cart. How is golf cart usage in the morning hours at TV? Cool or cold?

What time do you need to dine in the evening to avoid too-long lines?

Gene and Kathy,

My suggestion is to enjoy and embrace the crowds. Strike up conversations when you're waiting at a restaurant. After all, this is Florida's Friendliest Hometown.

Be extra vigilant on the roads. Not only will they be more crowded, but there will be more people who are not familiar and from what I read, get confused on the roundabouts and lost.

We won't be there in February, but hopefully will see you again next time you're down.

Safe travels and have a great time.

Default TV trip

Good advice, thanks Phyllis!

Sorry we won't be able to meet up with you and your hubby on our Feb. trip. We sure did enjoy having lunch with you two on our last trip to TV.

Do you think it will be difficult for us (considering the snowbird population) to rent a golf cart while we're there?

Gene and Kathy.

I will never understand why two intelligent and beautiful people like you and Kathy would leave us to go to Orlando ...for anything.

AND...now is the time for taking the leap. I have yet to meet anyone more obsessed with The Villages than you two.

Do you hear what I am sayin'???

We G's are looking forward to nine and dine and you can play the big courses with Sweetie, he's on his game, that boy.

I am NOT surprised you had all of the trivia answers right about TV.

HURRY HOME, Gene and Kathy.

Hugs,

Gracie et al...(That is Latin)...I can also say "et cum spiritu tuo"
