Has anyone considered starting an online petition drive? Maybe that would indicate that there's interest in re- opening the theater.

Good idea.

Better idea would be to keep filling up the existing theater so the owners think there is a business to be had.

Maybe AMC could take over Barnstorm, since they seem to know how to operate a movie house. A populous town like The Villages with no movie theater does seem incomplete.

We have the Old Mill Playhouse but that is now a good distance from the southern parts of the Villages. Great idea though.

I think you're right on that. With all the streaming that is available now perhaps they're keeping a close eye on the number of folks going to the one theatre that is open..... and IMHO that'll be the bellwether as to when and if the one in Brownwood reopens as a movie house but I'm sure they've got a couple of alternatives that they're looking at |

Many areas of the new sections are nearly as close (at least, in driving time) to the AMC at the Leesburg mall as they are to the Old Mill in Sumter Landing. And the experience at AMC is much better, at the same (or, it can be, much less) cost.

My 2 cents worth, having attended one movie at SL, yes it was affordable at $5 a ticket but it was no way to watch Spiderman's last movie. Poor picture, sound and having the guy in front of you crushing your legs. They need to invest some money to improve the screen and sound quality. The next load of money is to at least space the seats out more. I would prefer the reclining seats but I can live with the seats they have but space them out so the guy in front of me doesn't end up in my knees and how about a little space for people to get by to use the restroom....
With the new developments and the age of the people they want in Middleton, you would think this would be a must have or do. |

..... and I find that so-called "2nd string" actors are just as good as the big buck "superstars". Take, for example, JJ Abrams in "Counterpart" - he was perfect in that role - could DiCaprio have made that series any better - I don't think so! Take Josh Brolin in Prime's "Outer Range" - he is perfectly believable in his role as are all the other actors in that series. It is the writers and directors that make a good movie or series. A superstar actor just means that it will be a big-budget movie. |
