Not too many good movies these days, especially for us seniors. I think the industry as a whole is pricing themselves out of business.

There are long lines there sometimes.

People realized during lockdown that you can watch current run movies on Prime etc for $7.99 and put a bag of popcorn in the microwave. I used to enjoy going to the theatres but $20-25 for 2 for movie and snack bar can be better on own TV.

They could keep both open.

That would be great too.

The developers own the movie theaters.

They do not lease them out.

You can rent these for an evening for parties and the like. Rented Spaces - The Villages Entertainment

Do you really think if someone came to the developer with a viable business plan to lease the theater the developer would turn them away? I am sure the developer would just keep it closed to spite all these villagers…😂😂😂

Remember that the Barnstorm had a restaurant planned also. As did the Rialto.
Similar concept to Lazy Mac's.

Tal, if it is such a great business to be in then develop a business plan and lease the closed theater in Brownwood with YOUR capital. It amazes me how people will tell the developer how to use their capital. I guarantee you the developer knows exactly how many people go to the theater in Lake Sumter. If there was so much demand and they could make a reasonable profit they would open Brownwood. At least for now in the US, no business is required to lose money on an operation just because some people on the internet feel the need for a specific business to open up.[/QUOTE

Lighten up on Tal. Its an interesting thread that doesn't need a lecture

It is a topic that has been beaten to death over the past few months and for many just another way to try and bash the developer. If it made FINANCIAL sense to open up the theater don’t you think the developer would open it to make a profit?

Agree. The southern villages are closer to Leesburg. That theater has the recliner seating.

I'm sorry... Logic and reason have no place in this discussion...:icon_wink:

It does not seem to be about profit nor for loss.

What irks me is that the marketing literature for the Villages touts a movie theater on each square. And there is now one OPEN one.

Without seeing the books, you haven't a clue about "profit nor for loss"...

Logic and reason say that profitable business stay open, businesses losing money do not... The simple answer is usually the correct answer...

Then take them to court and sue them for false advertising. I am sure Morgan and Morgan will take your multimillion dollar case.

I’d suggest you invest in a very large tv, surround sound and snacks. You’ll never miss a movie theater other than the fact you’ll have to clean your own restroom.

Rating Movies ...

When I look at the list of movies and see PG 13 and R , there is no reason to attend. Hollywood could get some really good movies that "old" people can enjoy
Sad to say, there's not much quality there so finding better movies on TV works for us.
However, We really liked Barnstorm.

Has anyone heard what’s up with this still being closed? Is it a Labor issue or something else, as the Covid thing has since softened greatly and most businesses have resumed mostly usual and customary hours.
Thanks in advance.

I haven’t a clue and would really like to know why a community this HUGE has only 1 operating movie theater. Spanish Spring’s has been closed since pre-pandemic. Now I’ve heard that the gym is moving to that location. One of the lures to moving to The Villages was all of the wonderful things they offered. One movie theater for over 160,000 people wasn’t one of the perks.
