Default Stained glass class

I want to take a stained glass class and this is about the only thing that I can't find in TV! I have left my name with LLLC and have not received a call. Does anyone know of such a class anywhere nearby? Leave it to me to come up with something not offered! Thanks for your input.

Default Hope you find a class.

If I ever get there I would be glad to pass on what I know. I am no expert but have done some ok pieces. We are hoping to sell our house in 2012 and rent down in the villages to see how we like it for longer than a couple of weeks.

A good source of glass is always important as each piece of high quality flow glass has its own look and feel. So although you can get it off the net picking out pieces at a shop is always better.

good luck

There are a couple of fused glass clubs, but I haven't heard of any stained glass classes/clubs. A few months ago I read a notice in the Sun soliciting input on stained glass classes. They listed a phone number to call if you were interested. But I never heard anything more about it. It wouldn't hurt to call one of the fused glass clubs and ask them about it.

No mudder, apparently LLLC nor TV is offering a stained glass at this time. I have my name on a list! I've tried twice to get in a glass fusion class by calling the instructor both times I am told that they will call me back about a new class but then I received no call. Maybe next time!

Trudy, I hope you get your house sold really fast and get on down here and teach a class!

Thanks for everyone's input!

Default Foil versus came

Just a few thoughts>
I prefer foil technique by the way. I think it is easier to learn and makes for a finer line not as heavy looking. So if you have the option try for a foil class.
I was glad to hear there is a supply place within 20 min of the villages. There are usually classes in mosaic also by most shops that I have seen that sell supplies, which is a good thing to play around with as it makes use of your scrap glass for yard pavers, hot pads even table tops. If you really get into it you will end up with alot of small bits of scrap glass. By the way this can be an expensive hobby In addition to the grinder and the sodering iron and the hand tools it is easy to fall in love with a beautiful piece of hand made flow glass and they can run into real money. I bought one I fell in love with and it did make a beautiful mountain in my picture but it cost $50. It is sort of like people who like to sew and fall in love with a piece of fabric that they just have to have same thing can happen with the glass. Also don't make the mistake I did, stay away from ribbon glass or that with ridge designs untill you get some paractice as it is much harder to work with as well as it cuts your fingers.

I am rambling on sorry good luck.

Trudy

PS: Foil is rubbing copper foil on the edges of the glass and then sodering them together and laying on a bead of lead over the joint on both sides. Came is bending H or U shaped channel so the glass is in the channel of the lead and then sodering the seams were they meet. Then the piece has to be grouted. It is sturdier than foil but a heavy look.

Check the Recreation News that comes out on Thursdays. In there is a class for stained glass. If you are interested in supplies, I have a neighbor who's husband did stained glass and she has glass, supplies and equipment she would like to see. I am helping her sell. Call me, Marilyn, at 750-1370 if interested.

Well, if I ever can finally retire and get my butt down there, that is something that I would like to teach. I work mostly in foil and also fuse. Keep in touch and when I get down there ....soon I hope! I would be happy to teach you. The house is finished (even got a great workshop! )
