Are open pipe bikes allowed in FL? Typically it means an "altered exhaust system". Check with Sumter. In my home state where there was an annual safety inspection for all motor vehicles (none here!) they would just pop on their factory muffler to pass then take it back off. The law was never ever enforced except in a few of the toney towns. I came from a "biker" town. The ones that also have a radio blasting win the grand prize. It is indeed annoying. They know it and they likely will not care if you complain. A compromise is the "don't crap where you eat" courtesy and at least get away from you neighborhood before you proclaim to the world you are Easy Rider.

And no i'm not jealous of these pretend cowboys of the road. Any reasonable person knows that anything that creates undue noise to satisfy someones ego is a person who could care less about others.

You claim the loud mufflers are a safety issue? Nah...jest get a bloody louder horn!!!

Yeh. Inconsiderate people **** me off.

Yeah, I can still hear it inside the house but he is gone in less than 10 seconds so the noise is very short lived. I've owned a couple bikes over the years, an obnoxiously loud Norton 750 Commando and a Suzuki 1500 which had a very mellow sound. I have known guys that wear earplugs because their exhaust is so loud. Not for me, I want to be able to hear the screeching tires of the car that is about to run into me.

I really loved that Norton. I would ride it all week to work and would have to spend the weekend tightening up bolts and screws, adjusting the ignition timing and carburetors. Definitely a love hate relationship with English bikes.

Wow, you bring back memories. I too had a 1972 Norton Combat Commando and I absolutely loved that bike. I also had a 1966 BSA horny Hornet and it ran off a magneto. When I'd drive at night the headlight would get brighter as I accelerated and dimmer as I slowed down. It was a challenge, because if you over revved or missed a gear, chances are you'd blow the headlight bulb! Lucas invented darkness! Loved the English bikes then as I do now.

Haters and complainers

I actually feel sad for those of you who feel you must say he has a little you know what, is a turd, showing off, etc. I for one love the sound of a good old Harley (don’t have one) and as long as he's respectful and doesn't throttle it up on purpose to be obnoxious all good. If he's riding during daytime then I'm sorry there's nothing you can do so you'll just have to get over it. If he's doing this when he shouldn't simply introduce yourself and ask him not to. I'd bet he would be more than happy to comply.

As a lifelong motorcyclist, my opinion of "loud bikes save lives" is total BS. If it were true, then loud train horns would be located on the caboose, and your car horns would be mounted behind the tail pipe. I like quiet, fast, comfortable motorcycles like the Goldwing or BMW 1200.

That 80 year old in his car next to you not only can't see but can't HEAR you either.

Maybe if you really upset him he’ll bring in the outlaws or Hells angels for a block party

And we are at our absolute tolerance level with the constant lawn mowers and other gas equipment on a daily level. Even a small straw will break an overloaded camel’s back.

They can walk the bike to the main corner and start it up there if they were considerate. My hubby does and our rider friends too when visiting especially early or coming in late. We LIKE our neighbors.

While I agree with most of what you said, it doesn't change a thing about my post.

Walk the bike to the main corner? Have you ever tried to "walk a large bike" any significant distance? Plus, it only moves the sound to your neighbors.

I stand by my original suggestion to talk to the guy...

And you are a considerate rider...

I'll bet "the turd" would do the same if asked...

Yes that’s true

Common sense, you’re right.
