Our annual family reunion - coming up on the 90th. Classic homemade picnic style dishes, like mac and cheese, potato and macaroni salad, three bean salad, fried chicken, baked beans, etc. and the list goes on and on. And don't forget the deserts. All (or most) homemade and delicious.

secret is thick steaks, and very hot iron skillet for maybe 15-20 seconds a side. I did it once and it started to rain, and the rain drops sent hot oil onto the side of the house. . . |

For instance: Rack of musk ox, grilled asparagus, smashed Yukon gold with musk ox au just at a first rate restaurant overlooking Vancouver Island as the sun sinks slowly in the west, or, Fresh caught white abalone steak, lightly dipped in egg batter and quickly pan fried, with fresh mixed green salad and grilled garlic sourdough while at anchor in Cherry cove, Catalina, or, Baramundi "wings" (pectoral fins) cooked in a wine and butter sauce with (I really can't remember. It's been so long ago) in a jungle themed restaurant in Port Douglas, Australia, or, Saimin on Waikiki after spending the morning surfing/snorkeling. This reminiscing could go on for hours. Thanks for asking. |

A Jersey Shore lightly fried fish fry consisting of fried fillet, sea scallops, jumbo shrimp, crab cake, and at an extra charge an added fried lobster tail. None of this is greasy. A side of Mac & Cheese and stewed tomatoes. Start the meal with a big bloody Mary with shrimp and olives. We have this meal at a certain Jersey Shore restaurant when we can. Privately owned. Not a chain. Being down the shore they are not open all year.

I had a week-end cottage on St. George Island, Maryland for 20 years. We'd set the pots out on Friday night and collect crabs through the weekend. Sunday afternoon crab feasts with fresh picked corn and ripe sliced tomatoes from the Amish farms in Loveville, Md. good times

Was once trapped by a blizzard for three days and two nights.
Nothing death defying, had water, made shelter, fire for warmth, no food though. When we finally got out, had a bowl of hot stew, a cup of tea, and a cigarette. Best 5-star meal I ever had. |
