Default Beware : Paying property tax online Sumter Co.

Just received my Tax Assessment for 2014. It says you can pay online at Randy Mask - Sumter County Tax Collector. BEWARE: There is a $96.35 convenience fee to pay online. NICE.......

I paid online using my checking account and the fee was $1.50. (Buck and a half). A stamp is $.49. If you use your credit card the fee is high.

It's explained on your tax bill. A fee will be charged but the tax collector does not receive any of that money. Don't use a credi card.,

The fee is the credit card processing charge that the tax collector incurs. They can run anywhere from 1.5% to 3.5% of the transaction depending on what processor they use.

That does not appear to be true.

Yes, it was the credit card fee. Last year I paid online and it was only $1.50. I didn't use a credit card last year and wasn't going to use one this year. It must have taken me to the credit card screen for some reason. Oh well, I paid by snail mail this year.
Please pardon me for the confusion.

Set it up as a bill pay through your bank this way it eliminates their fee. This is how we do it & never a problem.

Paid online thru Bank $1.50 fee big deal. Last year used a new airline credit card. They charged me $25.00 fee but I got 2 free airline tickets from Air Tran for my required purchase. So use your head when paying online. JMO

This will be true for any tax payment made by a credit card-you will pay a large fee. Same is true of any other purchase, you just do not see the fee but the merchant does.

You can pay at the drive up at the Dome building, also the sheriff's annex - a letter box inside the door.
