The thread was likely closed because the first two, and only replies, explained the mistake the OP had made.

If I travel to England, rent a car, go counter-clockwise in a circle, and get into an accident, am I the victim?

If I come to the Villages and put something at the end of my driveway and it is taken away, am I the victim?

In both cases the answer is "no." You were unaware of the customs of the area (driving on the left in England, "free for the taking" if at the end of the driveway in the Villages) and made a mistake. The OP believed things worked one way, those that have been here for a while know differently.

I feel bad that the OP needed to learn in this manner but he/she isn't the first.

The broken glass should not have been left in the road. I don't carry a broom and dustpan but I would have tried to clean up as best as I could.
