Default House watchers

We were walking back to our house from the pool and a car drove by with one of those Home Watchers signs. It parked in front of a nice home and they got out to go in. Another couple passed us and said "Well that home is empty". We get house sitters but as I thought about it, that sign on their car is just another dead giveaway for thieves. They could just follow the car to snowbirds homes. Maybe smart to ditch the magnetic sign when checking houses.

Maybe they are the thieves with bogus home watch signs!

Just my prospective ... and I never have signs on my cars. However, I used to always tell clients to leave an old pair of shoes out on the front porch and I would move them around each week. I stopped telling people that as the only homes thieves seem to break into are those where people are living. They are going for money and jewelry not the TV's. And when one departs their home for a period of time, there is no money or jewelry left behind. Just food for thought ....

My neighbors on both sides put the silver insulation on all windows including the small garage windows. Each is away for 10 months....always thought is was a dead giveaway that the house is not occupied. But, then as another said, probably nothing of value inside except Tv's.

If there is a number on the car sign why not call it. If they answer just tell them you are checking to see if they really are checking the house and are being watched.

Thank you. I'm making a list of things villagers want to be in charge of. I will add how Home Watch companies do their job.

The list is getting long.

On our street we frequently have a car parked in the driveway with identifying pet sitter signs. That would be a home to burglarize.
