At the risk of hijacking... Oh boy, it's great to be back in this forum! I can't tell you all how awful it felt to be able to READ the posts, but I couldn't REPLY to them! It's so good to be back! (Feel free to tell me to shut up)

GracieGirl, I think you're right about them parking at the recreation centers. That's what I heard, too. If the burglars park at the recreation center, how do they get their loot from the house to the truck? Do they just walk down the street carrying it? Should we be on the lookout for young-ish people walking with shopping bags or suitcases?

Oh, Minty, I'm so sorry about your house being invaded and your jewelry stolen! And poor you having to deal with the dirty fingerprint dust on top of everything else!

Have there been any more burglaries since the police stopped the blue truck people at Laurel Manor?

Heard from a sumter county deputy that on the suspect list are children of villagers (30 - 40 year olds) living with parents/grandparents. Think about it, robberies are predominantly on golf courses/nature areas and who has easy access to golf carts. Furthermore, check the monday edition of the daily sun and take note of those in the 30 - 40 bracket charged with offenses that list the villages as their residence.

Trying not to be an alarmist but think there are those that fit this category. After all, based on population we could be a major city. All types come and go here as they do in Daytona, Melbourne and other cities.

Just be aware of your surroundings and as someone else mentioned, keep an eye out for each others home and property.

I am reading this thread on most days even though I am not there. In break-ins like this, they are often looking for jewelry and prescription drugs and guns, all easily concealed as they walk away. Never underestimate the carrying power of those big, baggy pants you see on young guys sometimes. That's one reason schools try to dress code out those things.

And, I am so sorry this is happening. TOTVers are doing a public service by helping to get the word out on what to look for. This is kind of like an on line neighborhood watch.

(and uuj, good to see u back. I had wondered where you had gone, and I have had no idea what to look for lately in the night sky.)
