Default Disposal location in villages

Anyone know where residents are to dispose of hazards our garbage contractor does not accept; batteries, the old mercury filled bulbs, old laptop computers, insulin syringes, outdated medications , paint remover, etc. etc.??? Not talking about special drives for medicines, or ones for old computers, just the routine disposal for the community since no recycling is done. Was told here you take such to Home Depot, that is not correct, they said they don't even collect the batteries they sell for their own tools and mowers ! As a side bar ...if this is true, we might be headed for a real problem here, many communities have planned ahead for the growing quantities of such items. Here it seems they don't even provide red hazard bags for medical waste ?? I could be wrong, first time having house guests who need this. In their city they sit such waste BESIDE the regular weekly pickups but it must be in the provided RED bags. Don't know how to do it here. !

If you are in Sumter County you can check the Sumter County Solid Waste site or the Household Electronics & Hazardous Waste Amnesty Day

Confirmation bias is real; I can find any number of articles that say so.
