You only quoted part of my post. I said I could see only one reason why I might use a golf cart outside of being on a golf course. (I don't play golf) That reason was to drive to the pool (something I'll be doing daily) so I don't have to wrap towels around my truck seats to keep them from getting wet. Yes, I expect to probably purchase a used cart for that purpose only. I can out right guarantee that will be the ONLY time it will get used. I will never drive it to town, to the doctor's, to the store, to the square and so on. It will not happen. Should it ever happen, I will post it here and admit my sins.

So whether you're operating a Cadillac, motor boat, milk truck, golf cart or a John Deere lawn tractor in a public place, you need to be driving below the legal limit.

One poster mentions that the cops haven't hassled him while sitting in his golf cart drinking a beer while listening to music. That's not really unbelieveable. If the cop's talking to you he's doing his own informal interview with you. You're not slurring, you don't act drunk, and it's not illegal to drink a beer and drive. If he can see you're behaving normally and not likely to cause trouble, why would he give you grief in the first place?

But..if as he's chatting with you you're acting a little "off", or being loud and/or rowdy, don't be quite so sure that you won't get asked to blow up the little balloon. Even if your only mode of transport is an E-Z Go. :o

Thank You,Very Much........

Possession of open containers of alcoholic beverages in vehicles is prohibited under Florida Statutes 316.1936 and anyone found with an “open container” in their vehicle will have to face penalties, including possible jail time, fines and a criminal conviction on their record.
Under Florida law, you can be ticketed or arrested for possessing an open container, either in a vehicle or in public. This means that both driver and passenger must abide by open container laws, or else they risk being ticketed or arrested for violation. To receive a ticket, you do not necessarily have to be intoxicated or under the influence. If a passenger is in physical possession of an open container, the passenger will be charged and the driver may also receive a ticket for the passenger who is in violation.

Stonecrest is a strictly enforced gated community and has private roads. I doubt the POA/residents would approve allowing non-residents unrestricted access.

Hey Let me know when you want to sell that cart. You'll find it taking up too much space, if it is electric the batteries will go bad from lack of use, and when you find out how much insurance costs to drive to the pool (most are within walking distance) you'll be selling. I'm one that likes to find good gently used items.

Chuck, just checked it a little while ago and you're correct. But I think that's about to change.

Stay tuned.

This affects Stonecrest residents too, but we can add an automatic gate elsewhere that gets us into the parking lots on the other side of Aldi’s if we get permission like we did from Wal-Mart.

Do you think that Wal-Mart store manager will let the amount of business "cart drivers" bring to him go elsewhere? A call to headquarters and something will get done, even if they have to spend money.

If I wind up living here 50 years (which is highly unlikely) I will never understand why you would want a golf cart for anything but a golf course. But hey..that's just me.

Well, one less golf cart might help a little on the heavy traffic this winter.:gc:

And if you don't believe Oldcoach ED, read the complete statute here: Statutes & Constitution :View Statutes : Online Sunshine

Sell it? I haven't even bought it yet! More likely than not I'll try riding my lawn tractor to the pool instead!

I hate to burst your bubble but we saw a Lady Lake policeman writing a ticket for a couple sitting in their golf cart drinking beer at Spanish Springs just a couple of months ago. They did not appear to be intoxicated so don't know if the ticket was for open container or not. It could have been a warning for all I know but I know the couple acted very surprised!

No you did not burst my bubble,Tell me then why did the police not issue me tickets while talking to them or waving to them on many occasions. As you stated "You do not know if the ticket was for an open containor not. It could have been a warning as you stated. So actually you really do not have solid facts.
