Anyone from Rockaway Point or Breezy Point in Queens, New York? I grew up in Breezy Point in the summers. I met my hubby at the Sugar Bowl, which is on the Ocean. It is still there. One side sells ice cream the other side sells beer and wine. I have relatives and friends who live there.

Met my wife in Rockaway--"Fitzgeralds" spent many a night in the Sugar Bowl and Kennedys !!!!!!!!

Sugar Bowl is still there my daughter in law parents have a home right behind it ----

I was stationed at Ft. Tilden, does that count? Many hours at Rockaway Beach and all those bars along 116th St.

My niece and her family in California have a house on Bedford, second house from the Sugar Bowl. They go there for the summer. Her mom and dad (my sister and her husband - they live in Duval) go there for the summer also.

We would pass Ft. Tilden on the way to the Point. Do you know that they have since named the Marine Park Bridge the Gil Hodges Bridge. We used to go to Maguire's and McNulty's along 116th. We would hitchhike out of Breezy. Those were the days.

In those days the toll for the Marine Pkwy Bridge was a dime. Plenty of times I paid the toll taker 3-4 pennies. That's all I had. They always laughed about it.

Looks like we have some people who remember Rockaway Beach NY

from long ago when it was a great place to be. I grew up there and

still have sand in my shoes.

Recently there was an article in the NY Times magazine section on the Rockaways and how the homes are being gentrified. The pictures of the homes showed how people were fixing them up and revitalizing the area.
We lived in the Bronx and it was an adventure to go to the beaches in Rockaway. If I'm not mistaken wasn't there a bar called the White House?

My BFF's family summer house is on Highland Place...4th generation now. Spent many summers as a guest at their place. Wonderful memories...

From the Sugar Bowl to the shore line is quite an excursion today. All that sand from LI is piling up year after year. The flag pole that was near the water years ago is now about halfway.
Worked as a lifeguard there and then at Riis Park in the late 60's.

I remember when the ocean was rough it would wash over the bulkheads and the wooden walk on Reid Avenue where we lived. Now the beach goes on forever. You do not have to worry about the water coming up anymore.
