I think it is ridiculous that we only have one movie theatre in a community of 130,000 residents. Brownwood theatre is great, comfortable and convenient for ALL residents. Why can’t they reopen as a movie theatre. Perhaps even incorporate a Lazy Mac type business in lobby with musics, comedy, entertainment?

Hollywood is dead ... theatres are becoming a thing of our past.. streaming is the new arena ..

I hope so. We need another open movie theater.

Not based on the daily attendance in Lake Sumter. Except for maybe Monday's.

Lots of folks on here asking someone to take a financial risk and open a business in that building. How many of you would be willing to risk your own money?

Bobbie Blackmon plays the squares 3 times a month.

The theaters are not amenities. They are public businesses. Would you limit the clientele if you owned the theater? You wouldn't be in business long if you did. Of course, in today's environment, you wouldn't likely be in business long anyway. An in-theater experience is a dying option.

How about a brick and mortar site for Talk of The Villages? Stay with me: A bunch of really nice, friendly people gather inside and exchange friendly banter and help each other by answering questions. Outside there is a sign reading, "No bullying allowed- bullies will be kicked out"... so newcomers assume it's safe. But the sign is a joke and not only are bullies allowed inside- they are encouraged to be sarcastic and demeaning because they know the sign is just for show. Bullies come every day because just like alligators in a duck pond- it's easy pickings for predators who salivate when biting their prey.

Will automatic weapons be permitted? :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

That ought to please about 4 people. And we thought movie attendance was low.

Because they can't fill them now with just Villagers...

Do you think that by limiting customers, MORE people will come?

If there was a poll or I was asked, my vote would definitely be a performing arts center like Savannah or such. If refurbed properly could be extremely nice. With perhaps even more seating than Savannah.

Primarily the location is perfect. Serving areas south of 466a to the far Southern area. Loads of potential customers. And IMO plenty of entertainers to fill the bills.

So rather than leave it a dinosaur with little hope of turning the page back to a movie theater, renovate it to serve the Public better and be another great revenue stream for TV.

that's an excellent idea, although there is a part of me that wishes it could be art cinema, showing independent or foreign films. good ones.

If they lowered the price to $6.00 everyday the theaters would be filled every day...just like they are on Mondays. When we moved here (18 years ago) residents could go to any movie any day for $3.50. There were always lines to get in.

Only one problem with that-----there are no good ones :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

closing 2 of the 3 theatres in the villages is not a good look for america's friendliest home town. Tv reputation and image is tarnished. Its up to the owners to create a successful business model that will succeed. What's next ? Closed golf courses, squares, pools ?

BINGO, my friend! most of it is all garbage: rehashed marvel junk that isn't even appealing to old comic book fans. those here suggesting the classics should attend some of the shows @ the Sharon, & from what i see, we have good crowds for that. i've said this before, but i'd pay FULL PRICE to see something like Sunset Blvd (or any Billy Wilder film,) on the big screen. i usually have to go to ocala to get any decent offerings, or check out the Fathom Events website.
