THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING!
![]() Only 2 policemen, put the National Guard on standby! Please get serious. The world is populated with all kinds of people, most good. If you want to isolate yourself with only "your kind" consider moving to a true gated community or better yet, a religious retreat on a high mountain top.

In fact, the squares are the private property of the Developer and that is why he can choose what political rallies can be held at the squares. Nothing wrong with that. The streets surrounding the squares are public streets so that is why the police can (and do) ticket people with alcoholic drinks who are sitting in their golf carts while listening to the entertainment. (Note: if you are going to have a drink - get out of your golf cart.) |

I gotta say, after reading these posts, I feel like I'm back in grade school on the playground. At the risk of getting the rath of posters, I'm going to say grow up, folks.

You know denial is a strong emotion. But as they say. "it is what it is". All the denials, the making light or fun of what is, without question, a potential risk still goes back to "it is what it is"..

[QUOTE=buggyone;543501]Make fun of some of the Wildwood problems if you wish - however, would you walk around all sections of Wildwood after dark? I feel 100% safe walking around The Villages after dark but would not do it in Wildwood. I often go out for a walk after midnight for a mile or two before going to bed. Naturally, would not do so in a city like Detroit, Flint, Washington DC, or Queens. How about you?[/QUOTE
Buggy, I wouldn't worry so much about safety in the newly developed Brownwood area. A 2010 census indicates a population of 6,709 in Wildwood and I'm certain almost all of these good people are NOT on drugs. The idea that a person with a criminal intent wouldn't have started their mischief a long time ago in Spanish Springs or Lake Sumter Landing because they didn't want to drive that far is funny. Most thieves and miscreants do not get around on foot or by bicycle and wide open 466 and 27/441 are all great getaway routes, why worry only about the interstate? If the perpetrator lives in Wildwood, they wouldn't need an interstate for escape. It is easy to become more fearful of crime as we age but I try remember the innate goodness of most people and the fact that crime will happen anywhere. I hope you enjoy this great new village center without fear. Remember, many of the elderly residents here "pack heat", lol . I enjoy driving through Wildwood, it has a certain attraction to me. I love the mix of homes and beautiful trees. I hope that small city thrives and booms because of The Villages, that would be the proverbial "win-win". Note to Edvin, I think I adore you because of your wonderful posts but I believe the cart paths do belong to The Villages and not the outside communitys. ![]() |

I didn't read all the posts to this thread so I hope I am not being redundant.
For those who have a problem with "outsiders" coming to TV to patronize and partake of the by design public offerings....what if when you moved to TV you had to sign an agreement stating you will not be allowed to frequent any businesses or public events THAT WERE NOT IN TV? Not many, including the those who complain about outsiders would buy into such a notion. Once again, just any of the other forums, many words, keystrokes and time being spent on minority positions. There are 99% OF US WHO THINK IT IS JUST FINE CO-EXISTING WITH OTHER COMMUNITIES. btk As if those who complain are not outsiders as well. |

Those of us who moved to TV from an area ripe with crime are probably a little more concerned than folks coming from the burbs. I love the fact that I don't see drug dealers anymore or hear gunshots at night or the search helicopter flying overhead. I came here to get away from that part of our world and pray it continues to be as beautiful as it is today. Druggies usually commit crimes of opportunity - a quick easy hit where they can take something and sell it for a hit of crack. Lots of things availble in golf carts that would serve that purpose. If they patrol from day one and they see the opportunity isn't there it will hopefully keep things in check.
True story - my neighbor had a hanging fern taken from her porch and the thief came back and tried to sell it to her. That is how brazen things are today. |

can't wait for brownwood to open so we can start a new post on the reality of Brownwood, and how do you feel about now that it is open. I hate worry over things that you can not change

IMHO I don't think it is appropriate to dismiss some people's concerns because they don't concern you. Why not just respect someone else's opinion and see how things play out. Maybe a little more respect for the other guy is in order???

I'm not "getting" this thread, NO, I think I am "getting" it, I just don't like what I am getting.
Would any of you all be upset if we lived next door to a more upscale area say maybe Boca or Palm Beach? Would you worry about spillage from those areas showing up in our restaurants, hanging out at the squares? So, what is it about Wildwood? I've driven through, ran into some stores, it doesn't look so scary. What I see is a small town, a bit weather beaten. The people seem okay. Ever speak with the people working here in TV? They're from places like Wildwood, Fruitland Park and Leesburg. They don't seem so scary. Several years ago I remember Wildwood voted down a proposal to open a card room at some horse park. They didn't want the riff-raff. Hellooo, we were maybe the riff-raff. I wonder what Wildwood thinks about the expansion, I wonder how they perceive us all. Do they understand that we all worked really long and hard to get here? Do they get that "we want what we want, we want it now" comes from maybe putting it off in the past because there were other priorities? Do they think we're a bunch of over-indulged, greedy, demanding old geezers? Like it or not, TV has changed Wildwood. Maybe it's for the better, maybe not. So, what is it with Wildwood? Is it that they have a lower income than TV or is it that they have minorities? Drugs? Puhleease, drug dealers could turn a bigger profit buying prescription drugs than selling drugs here. If anyone should be afraid, it should be Wildwood.

My last comment on Brownwood. If your afraid of a problem or think it might not be safe there are two other squares go there. The damn thing isn't even open yet and were ready to call in the National Guard because it's in Wildwood. I to have been to many stores in Wildwood and I've not had a problem. Crime can and will happen anywhere including here. Happened at the Chula Vista pool read the post on here. I suppose we'll have to stay away from the new mall when it opens on the other side of the square. Geeze
