I'm not taking a position here but if you would like statistics; here is a link from city data with Wildwood information.

Thank you for the link perrjojo, but I was looking for the number of crimes and type listed in the newspaper in which Penn said ALMOST 50% of the perps were from Wildwood.

Patty, I see what you are thinking. This is just a little bulletin board. Maybe 14 by 12. Yes, I read it as it is right on the wall when you come in the door. It will also have dogs who need homes etc. All Wildwood stuff. But refer to my whole post. I wasn't bashing Wildwood but I wouldn't be surprised if it does have a higher crime rate than most towns this size.

Enough for me. I'm staying off all threads today.

So from the link it looks like theft is the biggest problem which is a crime of opportunity. So don't present the opportunity and a theft won't happen.

In order to be able to call something ‘yours’ you must have a financial interest in it. You did not purchase any of the land or buildings in the squares and you do not pay anything to maintain them or pay taxes on them. More importantly, you have no vote in the election of their board members and their rulings.

Conversely, for the same reasons, you can call the village and CDD where your home resides ‘yours’.

Peachie, thanks for the nice compliment.

You are correct, the MM paths are owned by their respective CDDs.

However, as far as I know, Stonecrest is the only adjacent community that can get to Spanish Springs and the restaurants and stores along the 441 corridor in a standard golf cart, and that can be done without ever traveling on the MM paths.

If any of you have seen the recent "Building of BW" video describing the brass larger-than-life sculptures that have been commissioned by the Developer for BW, you would expect the Developer is also prepared to protect his investment 24-7.

These sculptures are likely to become an attractive nuisance (probably not the correct legal term, unless someone knows the correct term for something likely to become a target for vandalism.) I'm sure TV has plans already in place to enforce and ensure security for both people and property. There's an awful lot invested in BW and the last thing the Developer wants is negative publicity. BW may actually be the safest of the three town squares, and a catalyst (gentrification) to improve the neighboring community.

edvinmass - once within the villages, can't those stonecrest residents then use the mm paths in order to travel around to get to other public areas? i believe that folks who do not pay an amenity fee but use amenity resources is an issue about which posters have been concerned in the past.

btk
and i seem to recall lots of newspaper police reports about meth labs and their 'staff' being frequent 'victims' of fruitland and leesburg police while we wintered last season. not that such would be of concern to tv residents south of 466 - but it sure leaves an impression with some of us in the historic villages along 441/27.

Hellooo, everyone who lives in TV has a "financial interest" in the whole thing, not just their own personal residence. We bought a "lifestyle", not just a house.

The Squares and the commercial properties wouldn't be here and these properties wouldn't be prosperous were it not for the residents of TV who live here, pay their amenities fees, pay for the upkeep on their homes and patronize these businsesses. Stonecrest probably wouldn't be here if TV didn't exist. The Squares belong to all of us. They are the downtown for all of us, whether we live in Stonecrest or within one of the residential areas within TV.

Yes, residents from Stonecrest can go to all areas within TV on their carts if they so wish.

Now this thread has gone from criminals in Wildwood to trespassers from Stonecrest. (tongue in cheek comment)

When I posted the link to Wildwood statics I commented I was not taking a stand but merely posting the stats. A woman always reserves the right to change her mind. IMO the stats show that Wildwood has lower than Florida average education levels and higher poverty and unemployment levels. These things lead to higher crime stats as well. It doesn't mean people from Wilwood are undesirable, but perhaps the community needs an economic boost. Hopefully Brownwood and the developments to follow will afford more opportunities to Wildwood residents and the future stats will improve.

We often think of prejudice as being racial or religious in nature but we can be guilty of social/economic prejudice as well. Rather than wanting to avoid these people, let's give people a chance to lift themselves up. OK, I'm off my soap box now.
