Are the builder installed light fixtures covered under the 10 year new home warranty? The ballast went out on our laundry room fluorescent fixture and I don't want to do the dirty work if I don't have to. I'm assuming nobodies at the warranty department on the weekend. We are also the second owners and I have read that they won't cover anything after the original owner sells.

We paid for an electrician to change out the "guts" of the fixture for LED bulbs. BEST thing we ever did. Love that bright crisp clean light so much, we changed out every other florescent bulb fixture in the house. We can now SEE everything in our garage so easily. We have a fixture in the attic too and the bright LED bulbs make a huge difference. The LED light is a bit too bright for our master closet so we only use one bulb in that fixture and it is perfect illumination for us.

Check out thread “do it yourself” LED light kits are ease if you have any general skills. Utube step by step video.
4’ LED retro Try to copy and paste see if works? Several types of lighting, strips or tubes. You use the old frame and just take the guts out. |

Yeah, I'm going to go with a new led fixture. Never had a ballast go before. As for just putting in led tubes, I always thought non-flush fixtures are an eyesore. Apparently some led tubes will work if you take out the ballast and rewire things.

Good decision. I recommend "daylight" LED bulbs. Very bright.

Not under warranty. Don’t be so lazy. Easy fix.

Get the facts, not opinions. Call the warranty department. They are VERY helpful and can often reliable contractors if you need them.

Led bulbs it says they last for huge amounts of time. I've changed almost all the bulbs in my home to LED. I am too lazy to count the number of bulbs or the different types. I can say that I have a small shopping bag full of led bulbs that have failed. Most used, perhaps are the ones in our outside lamp post. I replaced the incandescents with LEDS they use like 10% as much electricity and are now 9 years old. As I figure it 9x365 days=3285 days x 10 hours a day=32850 hours. I surely got my monies worth and they are still working |

Teen year warranty is for structural issues. Lights come under the one year warranty. Replace the light with a LED fixture. Lowe's, Home Depot, or Wal Mart.
