You can purchase an alarm system. You can strategically position motion detectors . You can buy a guard dog. You can insert bars to prevent sliding doors from sliding. However this guy in broad daylight is knocking down doors and short of bolting a heavy plank horizontally across the door every time you leave the house well.............................................. .........And if you door is designed with a tiffany glass insert forget the plank
The sheriff's department needs to be much more active in neighborhoods. Community Watch needs to be even more visible |

Sandra. I think it is entirely possible that the person who is doing this is working for a good and reputable business like Massey or name any other good and reputable business. I think they could be calling someone with the information of someone leaving together and with some knowledge of the neighborhood being pretty empty at the time. We have groups going to lunch together etc. I think it is someone who works in these neighborhoods or lives in these neighborhoods. This morning The Sun published a report of some 30 year old guy who lives in Hemmingway arrested at Brownwood by the Wildwood police on another charge and when they searched his belongings they found a purse with several credit cards not his, a controlled substance and pot. He had been arrested before so he had a mug shot I found on the internet after reading that article. WHY aren't they writing about these break ins? article below. http://www.lakemugshots.com/Mugshots...73f501224c86a0

That guy looks like he is high or drunk. Just a thought, can signs be put up saying it has a community watch program in place? I think it might be good to place them at the gates where you enter and than several more thru the neighborhoods. This alerts the criminals that we are watching and they might think twice before committing any criminal act.

Here is a link to a story about a bunch of burglaries in 2009
Burglars In The Villages May Be Using Golf Carts | www.wftv.com And see the article in my post above about the guy arrested in Brownwood on Monday. I have to think law enforcement is really on this. But WHY isn't anything mentioned in the Sun or in Meta Mintons on line news about the break ins south of 466A??????

Neighbors are telling us what they know...surely they aren't lying..what would be the point? I'm not gonna wait to read it there before I take steps in my area. As for a solution, I'm gonna start with window decals for us and our neighbors that say "Neighborhood watch...you are being watched and any suspicious activity will be reported to the local police" (or something like that) If a whole neighborhood has it, they might believe it to be true. They can be found cheaply enough online and the more you get, the cheaper they are. I'm gonna try to get something more structured going, but we'll start with the decals. Can't imagine anyone will say no to that. |

I would think a home alarm system would be a lot more effective than a decal but no one would object to a decal in your window.
As for a neighborhood watch program, get the sheriff's office to tell you what can and cannot be done. The Villages does not want to be the next Sanford. |

Cheap and easy idea is to always leave the radio, TV or something with volume turned up so it could be heard from the front door so the crooks can hear that somebody may be in the house and move on......Costs a little electricity but much more cost effective than a security system.
We do that here in Miami. |
