Probably the wrong place to find out, but here goes... Does anyone know of a welding shop near TV? One of my (illegal) cast aluminum Cranes was broken loose from it's base during hurricane preparation. Trying to locate a shop that can repair it for me. Thanks in advance!!

Sorry about your Crane, I have welding equipment, but, I am not currently setup for aluminum on the MIG welder. I think I have some rods that are designed to allow repair of aluminum, but will have to check, send me a PM if you are still interested.

There will be a deposit of metal from the brazing rod. SUGGESTION-you may recall seeing in every hardware store a display piece showing, selling, a product called PC7. It is still available but no longer advertised. You need to get the broken part clean. You might want to drill a hole and put a pin into the spot you want to join. An aluminum nail would make a good pin. You want to rough everything up. You want to hold it still for ??? 8-10 hours. Testimonial-the motor mount on my table saw with a 3/4 hp motor was glued together with PC7 about 40 years ago. My REAL cast iron 100 year old park bench was fixed by me about 20 years ago. Secrets-get it clean-mix the product well-do not allow it to move while curing. |

There is a hot rod/car restoration shop in Wildwood that does welding. Can't remember their name. If you know someone in one of the villages car clubs they would know. Try a google search.

Large mainframe Computers used to use a selectric typewriter for the output console so it typed fast for 1000's of hours. Late one night the yolk that holds the selectric ball broke. I used PC 7 to repair it and it typed for another 4 years before the computer was replaced. I can't imagine anything that took more strain than that yolk. But it never broke again.

Call LAB, Leesburg Auto Body, a car restoration and hot rod shop. Dan's a nice guy, he may be able to do aluminum (if you are sure that's what it is).

The bird had been repaired, a combination of gluing (as suggested above), and 3 screws. Welding did not appear to be an option without doing significant additional damage to the bird, as soon as the first weld was made, it became very difficult to do the remaining 4 welds. The OP and I appreciate all the comments.

This is from a post I made years ago about welding some aluminum to hold new batteries in my golf cart...
As I was doing this search I found a great guy named Bill Horne of J&B Street Rods & Welding . He does aluminum welding and runs a garage that fixes up “classic” cars. Not sure he is still there?

You could do it yourself, I used this technique to weld an aluminum part.
It was awhile ago, but if I recall correctly, the main thing was to heat the parts to be welded before touching the alum welding rod to them. And I bought the gas tank and rods at home depot, probably less than $30 total. How to "Weld" Aluminum Without a Welder: 7 Steps (with Pictures) |
