About a month ago we had a water main break on our street. Since that time we have been having a problem with water pressure (or lack of same). Normally the pressure is fine. However, after a toilet is flushed the faucet in the sink has reduced water flow until the toilet tank is filled, then it returns to normal. Yesterday my wife was taking a shower and my son, who was visiting, turned on his shower. My wife said her water became a trickle. Prior to the water main break we didn't have these problems. My issue now is who to contact first. The water main was repaired by village people. I have a plumber (Robert Isherwood) who installed a water system in my home. I'm just wondering who to contact first to try to get this resolved. Any suggestions?

It is certinly possible that when the water main was broken, and repaired, that some dirt got in the pipes and found its way to your "water system" which I assume is a filter of sorts. Have you checked to see if the filter needs to be replaced or cleaned?

When a water main is broken sometimes sand ,rocks get into the pipe .You may have a small blockage in the pipe leading into your home. I would think, if that was the problem,the people who repaired the water main should send someone out to your home to take a look at it. I would call them first.

Well, I guess it would make sense to call the plumber who installed your system, if you don't know where the filter is located, but, it might also be prudent to call the Villages Water utility and talk with them about your issue.

I would first contact the water company and report the issue just to rule out known problems.
If that water main repair was a contractor the the CCD hired, I would also talk to the people that hired the contractor about the issue (report it). If you find that the low pressure at your home is something you will have to live with, there are devices that can be installed to boost water pressure. Your plumber should be able to help you with issues related to your specific property. |

Did you check with neighbors to see if they have a problem? This could "narrow" the issue. My guess it is in the water system you had installed. But I'm no expert.

I contacted the villages and they said that with problems like this they have advised you bypass your water softener system. I did that but haven't seen much of a solution but it's possible that I need to wait a bit for new water to get into the system. However, if that didn't work I was told to call back.

Just an update for those interested. I contacted the Villages and they referred me to the local water company. This morning the guy came out and uncovered the gas meter. He found that there were roots growing under the meter from a neighbors oak tree. He cut the roots and told me that in a year or two that would have been a major problem. He took off the water meter and didn't find anything impeding the water flow. He then attached a hose to the meter and turned it on. The water pressure was fine. He then reattached the meter and I checked the pressure in the house. I flushed the toilet and turned on the sink faucet. It was back to normal. Whatever happened worked. I believe when he shot a stream of water into the street it may have dislodged something. So it looks like my problem is resolved and a future problem averted. Kudos to the Villages Customer Service and the Water Co.

Glad to hear your situation is resolved. I suspect your comment about gas meter should have been water meter. It is good to hear that the water company is responsive and helpful.
