I always owe, so I do not need to worry about a refund......

I usually overpay by a little and have my overpayment applied to my first quarterly payment of the new year.

Go to irs.gov to find out the status of your refund. We never received a refund in 2021 and it was a substantial amount. I'm still trying to get the money. It's a long story but someone did our taxes and put the wrong address on our return. Instead of having the refund deposited into our account they selected to have it mailed to us (why I'll never know.) - at a wrong address. The person who did our taxes never let us see it or sign it. When I realized what they had done, a couple weeks or so after their mistake I asked them to correct it and they refused, saying it could not be done. I am at a loss as to how to get our money. I've filled out paperwork and nothing has happened.

I filed using TurboTax in April. I didn’t get a return, but I was delighted to only need to pay a couple hundred dollars beyond what had been taken out. I paid by credit card, and the IRS approved it in less than twelve hours.

I never ask the IRS for a refund. If I overpay my taxes, I apply the overpaid amount to next year's tax return. Also, I never have any money withheld from retirement income. My taxes are paid quarterly as estimated payments.

Our refund was delayed by over 4 months for no apparent reason. We received 2 letters from IRS stating it was reviewing our return but did not need any additional information. After filing on March 1st, return was received in early July with no explanation.

If you don’t know that tax preparer well or the person is not associated with a reputable organization, you might be a victim of fraud. The scam could be your tax preparer intentionally has your tax refund check sent to a mailing address where a scammer picks up the check and cashes it. If all of this is indeed a scam, identity theft is also a possibility, This is speculation without more information from you.

If you have no strong evidence of a scam and your refund is substantial, you might get professional help from a reputable tax preparer such as a CPA to possibly help guide you through the process.

Unless you have evidence of your tax preparer’s willful intent rather than a mistake, I am doubtful that you could get law enforcement very interested to investigate.

I used HR Block software and have been checking the IRS website weekly. It says still processing. Unfortunately I overpaid estimated taxes. I know most people received their refunds.

Mine was stolen out of the mail last year, always use direct deposit. You will need to call the IRS, and on the automated messages have them send you a form to fill out. Doubt you will get a live person, call at 7:00 AM only, to get through. It’s a hassle.

The IRS is about 20 - 25 weeks behind on processing refunds. So, if you efiled around April 1st, you should receive your refund very soon. Paper returns that were snail mailed always take longer. I believe it is the IRS's way of punishing snail mail filers - they want everyone to efile. Paper returns require staff to put the info into computers. No errors with efiling.
