Default Can I see the Shuttle

Can I see the Shuttle from our back yard (it's very small with a home close behind) or do I need to go to wide open land, like a golf course? I liked the idea of watching the launch on TV then going outside, but not sure I"ll be able to see much due to the close proximity of the homes here. Or go in the street and look over our home. Hoping for clear skies.
Thanks for any advice,
Bob

Being in an open area will allow you to see the shuttle as soon as it comes across the horizon which is also when it is closest to us. I imagine it will eventually be high enough to clear the houstops - particularly if you go out into the road, but it will be a bit farther downrange by then and may appear smaller.

Yes, you'll be able to see it from your house if sky is clear. How lonh you'll be able to see it depends on whether it goes East or North. Beautiful!!!!

Default Saw the last few....

Took some good pictures of the last couple of launches from my driveway with shuttle above the rooftops of the house across the street.

If I had time in the AM(I'm on the phones for my job at 7AM) I'd go over to Morse on the golf course where it opens up to the east...looking out towards Odell Rec. center. With launch at 6:21 AM I would not get back in time. Have to set up in my driveway again.

We can see the launch from our front yard. If the launch goes as planned, it will be before dawn and it will be difficult to miss. In the past, we've watched from our yard, from the Mallory mail station, from Cane Gardens parking lot. It was beautiful each time. If you have any doubts about watching from your yard, head to an area where you'll be able to see. ENJOY!

Launch is scheduled for 6:21 and dawn is 6:50 (sunrise is 7:14). No fog, please.

Yes it was beautiful from my lanai. I was able to see it quite a bit longer than usual -
guess because of the clear dark sky.
...and three gals aboard!

I almost missed it!!! I wrote a note and put by the PC but I was in the other room this morning reading the paper when I saw the picture of the shuttle and the 6:21 time. We made it outside to see the end of the shoot. Missed the separation this time. And the sky was so clear too!!!

ajbrown:

I'm glad you caught what I thought was an especially beautiful part of this morning's excitement! I took several pictures, too, even though I almost missed them because the shot was really over; I happened to go back out with my trash and saw the wonderful colors that sunrise splashed into a residual trail . . .
