The answer is unincorporated Sumter County, but not within Wildwood city limits. |
Short answer.....no

As a retired carrier of the USPS I will tell you the answer would be no. All of the computerized equipment used to sort mail is done by address that you have on your house or official PO Boxes. Other wise it will be returned to sender, address unknown.

I worked for Address Management in the USPS for many years before retiring. Unless the entire system has changed drastically in a few years, The answer is no, you cannot use your mailbox number instead of your street address. All letter mail is automated and is not looked at by a human until it gets to its final destination. The way that automation works is that it reads the mail and sorts it based on a national database of addresses. Your mailbox number is not listed in that database. Using only that number will result in your mail being returned to sender.

An ambulance or fire truck will never find you without a street address.

We've been that route. |
Many of the major cities in Florida use numbered street and avenues. Miami for one, and where I grew up, St. Petersburg is another. If used properly it's a great way to find a location quick. I grew up at 670 17th Ave. South in St. Pete. That is 17 blocks south of Central Ave and 7 blocks west of Tampa Bay.
Central Avenue runs east to west and divides St. Petersburg into north and south. So if you lived at 17 ave. North, and I live at 17th Ave. South, you would be 34 blocks north of me. Avenues run east and west, streets run north and south and start at Tampa Bay. If you are on 4th Street North, you are 4 blocks west of Tampa Bay and somewhere north of Central Avenue. The easiest place in the world to find an address without looking at a map is St. Petersburg. There are exceptions, a few streets have names, however they are in alphabetical order. Because Tampa Bay isn't at 90 degrees and slants to the northeast. Streets east of 1st Street are labeled as Northeast. So 2nd St. Northeast would be north of Central and east of 1st St., there is only about 3 or 4 streets that are northeast. http://www.stpete.org/maps/docs/DowntownMap.gif |
Thanks, always wondered about the "different" street names in Marion!

I wondered the same thing. I had my daughter mail a letter from California as a test. It was addressed to my full name, Charlotte Mail Center, Box ####, The Villages, FL, Zip. It worked just fine. The reason is I would like to use it as my return address for selling on eBay. It will save me from paying for a PO Box. I still want to talk to our mail gal just to confirm it’s ok on a regular basis.
